The Red Sox improved to 21-10 tonight with a 9-2 beatdown of the Blue Jays, who had the Sox number before tonight. Josh Beckett gave up a homerun on his first pitch and that was it over 7 innings. It's a great game when they score 9 runs with Manny and Papi go 1-8. This team is playing great baseball right now and they get Jon Lester (7-2 last year with Lymphoma) back this week.

Boston up 8-0 in the 9th tonight. Coupled with the Rangers 14-2 pounding of the Yankees and the Sox are now sitting 7 games up in the AL East.

Mike Lowell hits #7 and Papi knocks in 2. Lowell is having an All-Star type year thus far... .303BA, 7HR, 28RBI. The biggest positive from this is the BlueJays had Roy Halladay on the mound. 8R, 7ER in 5 Innings....Ouch.

Tim Wakefield has been brilliant this year. He improves to 4-3, but his ERA is a sick 1.79. If the offense keeps this tear up the pitching staff is going to make it impossible for them to lose.

The Red Sox lost tonight to the Orioles 6-3, a team they had beaten 21 out of 24. However, it was Tavarez on the mound tonight and they've got Schilling and Beckett to finish off the weekend. I had hoped that the Sox would bring up Jon Lester to pitch tonight but I guess it will be next week. Even so the Yankees took it on the chin tonight against the Mariners and Fox posted a stat than no AL team had as big a lead in the division this late in the season since the 2001 Mariners. I had to make sure all of you Yankee fans knew that. You remind me of the players on Deal or No Deal that have just opened the 1 Million, the 700,000, and the 500,000 briefcases in a row while still saying: That's okay--its okay. Just keep telling yourselves that......

Red Sox score 6 in the ninth inning thanks to a couple of clutch hits by Ortiz and Varitek and some very charitable fielding by the O's to comeback and win in their final at bat 6-5. Beckett didn't pitch that well and left after 4 innings with another blister (shouldn't we trade for Moises Alou so he can teach Becks how to toughen up his skin?) so he failed to tie 3 other Red Sox pitchers with wins in their first 8 starts. With the win today the Sox are 22-3 against the O's since the beginning of last season. Overall Boston's record is now 25-11 and they lead the AL East by 8 games over the O's and Yankees. The next week will be big for the Sox as they have 4 against the Tigers at home, followed by 3 at home against the Braves and 3 against the Evil Empire at the Stadium.

Boston improved to a Major League best 26-11 by taking the series opening game against the Tigers 7-1. Dice-K threw a complete game, allowing 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 5 and allowing no walks. The last two games he has went 2-0 with this line: 16 IP 11 H 2 R 2 ER 2 HR 3 BB and 13 K. He became the AL's 4th 5 game winner at 5-2 on the year. It seems like he has gotten better command of his pitches after struggling a little bit with control to begin the season.

Red Sox took one on the chin last night, but have responded well early. A 2-Run HR from ManRam has help the Sox build an early 3-0 lead against the Yanks. They need to win at least 1 in this 3 game series IMO....

Huge win by the Red Sox tonight as they took down the evil empire 7-3. Mussina was lit up for 7 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings and his ERA now stands north of 6 for the year. This was a big game because Boston had its number 5 starter, Julian Tavarez going up against one of the Yankees main guys. This win means that even if Red Sox killer Andy Pettitte (13-6 lifetime against the Sox) can salvage the series for the Yankees they'll still only pick up one game and be 9 1/2 out. A win by the Sox, who have Schilling pitching, would push the lead to 11 1/2 . Boston stands at 6-2 on the year against the Yankees and 50-48 since the beginning of the 2003 season (playoffs included). They are also 6-3 in a murderous 10 game stretch against the Tigers, Braves and Yankees. I felt that if the Sox could go 5-5 in that stretch they'd be doing well with Beckett being out, now they can do no worse than 6-4. The calender is getting ready to flip to June: Beckett, Timlin and Lester are set to return.....keep it rollin'.....
