AverageJoesGym Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Since the poll of BGPer's favorite teams had several Red Sox fans listed I thought I'd start a Red Sox thread. They were off tonight but did anyone catch that performance by Papelbon last night. One out in the 8th, one run lead, runners on 2nd and 3rd and Michael Young and Mark Teixeira coming up. Just filthy stuff to get out of that inning and then he blew away Sosa, Blalock and Wilkerson to close it out. If the offense gets going, and it usually does as the weather gets warmer, the Sox could be very, very good this year.
AverageJoesGym Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 The Sox are just smoking the Mariners in their home opener. Its 13-1 after 6 innings. Beckett's line so far:7 IP 2 H 1 R 1 ER 0 BB 8 K. He's looked great so far in 2 starts. Drew has hit his firts HR and has 3 RBI, Varitek is 3-3 with 3 RBI, and Youkilis has 3 hits and an RBI. Great home opener for the Sox.
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 David Ortiz picked a great time to start swinging the bat on sunday, his two home runs put me over the top and I got a win in the first week of the BGP fantasy baseball. lol The Red Sox will score runs, question is can the starting pitching hold up.
AverageJoesGym Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Felix Hernandez just flat out dominated the Red Sox tonight in Dice-K's Fenway debut. The matchup between Dice and Ichiro turned out to be one-sided as Ichiro went 0-4 off Dice-K with a strikeout. However, the match up between Hernandez and the Sox offense was just as one-sided. He had a no-no for 7 1/3 innings before JD Drew lined a single up the middle to extend his hitting streak to 8 games. Hernandez finished with a 1 hit shutout with 6 K's and 2 BB on 111 pitches. Dice-K pitched fine going 7 innings with 8 hits 3 Runs 4 Ks and a walk. Forecast doesn't look to promising for the rubber match tomorrow as snow is predicted in Boston. Red Sox are now 4-4 one game behind Toronto in the East.

UKMustangFan Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I was pleased with DiceK's performance....If he goes out and gives 7 strong inninngs like he did tonight, all year, he's going to have some hardware come CY Young Time....
AverageJoesGym Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 The Red Sox go for the sweep of AAA Columbus errrrrrr the Yankees today. While the Sox have looked really good so far against the Yankees I don't think Sox fans should get overly excited or Yankees fans get too upset even if they finish off the sweep. The Yankees are a shell of themselves right now but should get Mussina, Matsui, Wang, Posada and Damon all back this week. They've done a good job to stay around .500 with so many players out. Meanwhile Boston seems to have assembled a much stronger bullpen than last year and the starting pitching has been lights out. Right now there team ERA is 3rd in all of MLB while the struggling offense has shown some life in the last week climbing to 9th in .Avg in MLB.

The Yankees pitching is a liability regardless of how healthy they are. If the Rocket doesn't come back to NY, the Yankees are toast IMO.
AverageJoesGym Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Red Sox jump up off of the carpet for the 3rd time in 3 games. Mike Lowell hits his 2nd homerun of the game off of the remnants of the Yankee bullpen to give the Red Sox a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the 7th. The Yankee pitching staff is in worse shape than John Goodman at this point.

UKMustangFan Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Papelbon has some serious gas! He blew it by Jeter a couple times there.
UKMustangFan Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 First sweep of the Yankees at Fenway since 1990.....It's always a thing of beauty when A-Rod makes the games final out....
AverageJoesGym Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Great series at Fenway this weekend. The Red Sox get the sweep but they had to come from behind each time to do it. The Yankees pitching is just horrible at this point, the starters are causing the bullpen to get chewed up. Over the last 10-12 years the difference in the Sox and the Yankees was that the Yankees had Rivera and some other great relievers to shorten the game. With Papelbon that advantage has been negated by the Sox, if the offense continues to heat up Boston has a chance to break the Yankees hold on the division. As for Dice-K, he struggled with location all night but gutted out 7 innings to get the win. Boston's bullpen closed it out with 2 scoreless innings, the last by Papelbon who picked up his 4th save in 5 games and 6th overall.
UKMustangFan Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Sox up 5-4 in the 5th against the Yanks....If the Sox can hold on that'll put them up 6.5 games over the CELLAR-DWELLING Yankees, man that feels good to say, and send the Yanks to their 7th straight loss....
