:confused: All the clinics and coaches I've had have always said to keep the bat parallel to the ground. It can be angled to put it down the lines, but not angled where the bat head is above the handle.

Yeah....and I saw the kid in Tucson pick up the baseball in his front yard. :banana:

What clinics are you going to? Watch the real ball players, college. The bat head is higher than the knob. You have less chance of popping it up if your bat is angled rather than parallel...

Back in my days, I was always taught this way. I always understood the point of it being much easier to pop up when parallel, but it seems to be easier to get the bat on the ball when it's parallel.

It's based on the amount of movement on the pitches when you're at that level compared to high school. Sometimes they'd rather you miss a big 12-6 than pop it up. The downward angle gives a higher percentage of contact to be down...
