April 4, 200719 yr Magician - you came up with a very good list, I can't argue with your picks. My top 5: 1. Adolph Rupp 2. John Wooden 3. Dean Smith 4. Pat Summit 5. Bob Knight Next 5: 6. Hank Iba 7. Coach "K" 8. Pete Carril (spelling?) 9. Al McGuire 10. Ray meyer Very honorable Mention: ( no certain order) Tubby Smith Rick Pitino Jim Bohiem Phog Allen Tom Izzo Bear Bryant , Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler (imo these guys were so good they could have won big in basketball as well - LOL) Imo the ones that included Donovan and Few are way too young, maybe in time and some more years down the road but not now. JMO
April 4, 200719 yr If Pat Summitt gets two more championships and moves from 7-9 to tie wooden. Does she become the greatest coach ever?
April 4, 200719 yr I think Little John is the better coach. His adaptation of the Princeton offense is nice. :thumb: I agree, imo I couldn't include little John bc he hasn't had enough years in yet, maybe in time. As for John,sr. I can't include a man that I considered a teacher of (Cheap Shot basketball), his players were for the most part thugs and were played "dirty", "cheap shot" ball. He made Huggins look like Mother Theresa   . JMO
April 4, 200719 yr If Pat Summitt gets two more championships and moves from 7-9 to tie wooden. Does she become the greatest coach ever? Quite possibly, you make a good point. Maybe she can take over the U.K. mens program and win some titles on the mens side. Why not start that rumor, every other possible rumor has been started.
April 4, 200719 yr Ha!! She was once offered the womens job at UK but turned it down because UK would not pay her moving expenses. How about them apples? Now UK is considering paying Billy D the Taj Mahal and a space shuttle to come to rupp.
April 4, 200719 yr Ha!! She was once offered the womens job at UK but turned it down because UK would not pay her moving expenses. How about them apples? Now UK is considering paying Billy D the Taj Mahal and a space shuttle to come to rupp. Well, we did finally get Pat Summit's long time assistat in M. DeMoss. I don't know about how the space shuttle thing would go in Lexington but we could offer him ownership of Keenland , and while were at it offer him the Ky. Horse Park and the Jim Beam proffits as well
April 4, 200719 yr Sounds like a good extension package when his first 5 year contract is up and the first 3 banners are hung at rupp:thumb:
April 4, 200719 yr 1. Wooden 2. Rupp 3. Knight 4. Dean Smith 5. Crum 6. Pitino 7. Coach K 8. Williams
April 4, 200719 yr Ha!! She was once offered the womens job at UK but turned it down because UK would not pay her moving expenses. How about them apples? That decision was every bit as smart as letting Bear Bryant get away. Of course, that was at a time when Rupp ruled the state and it wasn't big enough for him and "the Bear", when I think of what we (U.K.) could have had : "The Baron", "The Bear" and Pat Summit  !!
April 4, 200719 yr Top 5 All Time: 1) John Woodern- Simply knew how to win. 10 championships, 88 game win streak during his tenure, 7 straight title 2) Pat Summit- All time winningest coach. 7 National Titles , 27 appearances in the NCaa tourney in 33 years, 17 Final Four appearances 3) Bobby Knight- All Time winningest coach on the Men's side. 3 National Titles 4) Dean Smith- 2nd all time in wins (men's side) , 2 national championships, 11 final fours 5) Adolph Rupp- 3rd all time winningest coach on the men's side, 4 national titles
April 4, 200719 yr 1. John Wooden - 10 Titles and more respect than anyone in the coaching profession. 2. Pat Summitt - More wins than any other college coach, 7 titles (2nd only to Wooden) The rest (Knight, Rupp, Ariema(sp?), Smith, K) can be interchanged in the 3 to 10 spots.
April 4, 200719 yr Wooden Rupp Knight Coach K Dean The next list would be: Rick Pitino Roy Williams Billy Donovan Denny Crum Jim Boehim (One fault I have with my list is obviously the lack of knowledge about some of the older coaches) I think Jim Calhoun would have to be on there before Donovan.
