Added are Highlands, Cov Cath, Anderson Cty, Dayton, Ludlow, Grant Cty, Newport, and Henry Cty...

 

Rivals Dixe and Holmes are remaining on the schedule...

Scott's 2007 schedule should provide them with an opportunity to be competitive in more games than in years past. Previous years of playing in 4A saw week after week of beatings by the big programs. While adding Cov Cath and Highlands to their 5A division (with Dixie and Holmes) doesn't provide much relief to the playoff outlook, the rest of the schedule gives the Eagles an opportunity to win more games than in the previous years...

Scott 2007 Offense. Scott returns Senior quarterback Tony Deck who threw for 800 yards and 6 td's in '06. Deck will be backed up by junior quarteback Mike Haney. Helping in the passing game will be the return of two senior recievers: Curtis Spencer who caught for 292 yards and 4 td's and Rob Hankinson who caught for 364 yards and 4 td's. Added to the mix is versatile senior Ryan Bianchi who has seen action at qb (2 td passes in '06), rb, and wr. At running back, Scott will be bringing back senior Joe Forrester. Forrester rushed for over 230 yards in '06 before being sidelined with injury early in the season...

What can Scott do to improve?

1. Forget about the past. The school will begin it's 30th football season this fall and brings with it a combined record of 60-240. The only winning season that Scott has had was in 1990 going 6-5, probably before all but a few of the seniors were born. This is a huge burden on the players and the poor tradition is a big reason why many of the kids flee to other better established programs.

2. Stay Healthy. A big key for any program, but especially important at Scott. The varsity roster should be at about a little over 40-45 this season. To remain competetive the core of starters will need to stay healthy for the duration of the season.

3. Consistency. The varsity team will have now been in Coach Fisk's system for 3 years. The players are now use to his system. The coaching staff, especially the coordinators, have been working with the kids for a few years now and they should be more comfortable with the program in place.

4. Look for Improvement From '06. This years team will be a largely senior team. They have had tons of varsity experience the last two years behind them. To be successful in '07, this group will need to really step up and use all the experience and skills they have amassed and lead this team.

Outlook

If Scott can stay healthy and the offense can be as productive as they potentially can, there is an excellent chance that Scott can have one of it's best seasons in over a decade...

Scott should definately be better offensively this year. Tony Deck will have his 2 main targets in the passing game with Hankinson and Spencer who formed a good receiving core last year working together. Joe Forrester returns from injury to anchor the backfield which will also give Deck another weapon that he lost last year early in the season. The big question mark will be replacing the offensive and defensive line players they lost from last years team. I believe they have the players to do that especially in Mullins, Yoest, Robbins, Hoskins, and Schwaller. I think the big key is can they get McKinney to step up and help out he has the size and strength just needs the experience at this level.

 

Other notable Seniors to watch out for are Bianchi who is a versatile player that can play alot of positions on the field. Sivers who has added strength and size could be a factor once he gets a game or 2 under his belt at the Varsity level. Adkins on defense should have a break out year at the corner this will be his 2nd year at the corner for the Eagles.

 

The sky is the limit for this team I think alot of goals can be reached this year if they can avoid the injury bug.

With the way the schedule sets up, If this team plays the way they are capable, this team can go 7-3 losing all 3 games in district. I think it is realistic that this team will be 5-5 and making it to the playoffs, bowing out to Highlands in the first round.

With 4 district games: Highlands, CovCath, Dixie and Holmes, the question becomes can they beat Holmes to make the playoffs. Who does Holmes play the week before their match up (of course Scott has Campbell County)? The game could be decided by which team comes out of the prior week's game in better shape injury wise. I want to wish Scott good luck this season. Its a team that I cheer for because of the tough road they've travelled in the past. Got to really respect the kids that come out to play football at Scott and other programs that haven't experienced much success in the past.

You all should beat Holmes. Regardless of what happens the week prior to playing Holmes. Holmes did not fair to well in the 7-on-7's. Holmes has speed, speed, and more speed. But thats it.

Scott 2007 Defense.

In the middle of Scott's defense will he the hard hitting linebacker duo of Joe and Trevor Forrester. The two are cousins and will be seniors this year. Joe, the larger of the two had 15 tackles and a sack before being sidelined with an injury early in '06. Trevor had 37 solo tackles. Also, working at linbacker will be senior Ryan Bianchi. Besides working various roles on offense, Bianchi had 7 tackles, 1 sack, and a fumble recovery.

Scott's defensive line will highlight senior Stanley Droege (13 tackles / 2 sacks / 1 fumble recovery) and David Mullins (13 tackles / 3 sacks / 1 fumble recovery).

The secondary will be staffed with seniors Jordan Adkins (who also plays varsity basketball and baseball) had 19 tackles in '06 and the versatile Curtis Spenser who had 14 solo tackles, 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery while also getting many reps on offense.
