His options out of high school were UK, UNC, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Boston College, Western KY, and Cincinnati... I don't know that he'd have the same opportunities now, but he had them then.

Williams is pretty good at picking the tall boys who have some potential. the difference is that UNC wanted to redshirt Jared the first year - have him in the weight room and doing individual improvement workouts for a year so they could develop him. Instead he spent his first year on the pine doing absolutely nothing and been worked with by the great post coach at UK - Reggie Hanson...

The boy has gotten no better since he arrived at UK - partly his fault - big time the UK coaching staff's fault.

And your judging that on what, maybe 5 games this year? We didn't have the chance really to see if he improved or not. The injury was probably the best thing for him, because it did give him the chance to be redshirted and improve more...

I'm judging this on him coming back to God's country (Scott Co) and playing against the team and other SC alumni that play at various colleges after his first year at UK. Zero improvement. The shoulder injury has set him back even more. He hasn't been able to lift weights to gain muscle, only to rehabilitate. They wasted an entire year with this kid. He could have put on 50 lbs of muscle had they had the right nutritionist and weight training coach in place...

 

Nazi Mohammed after one year at UK - vast improvement. Marquis Estill after one year at UK - vast improvement. Carter after one year there - zip. It's a shame.

He should have been RS during his frosh year, no doubt about it but he still has 3 seasons left, plenty of room to improve.

I don't put much stock in his father... He wasn't around for much of the recruiting process. That's another thread in itself.

I've been playing with Jared / watching him play since the 7th grade and I have never really seen any kind of basketball talent from him. IMO, he is extremely unpolished but I don't blame him for it. He has never had to do anything because of his height and nobody really prepared him for the next level and it looks as though UK is making the same mistake. Very sad for a kid with such potential imo.
