March 20, 200719 yr They showed that a short few weeks ago... They resigned Arroyo and Harang....Go out and get a legit #1. Harang is solid, but he's more of a 2 IMO. Arroyo was not the same after the break as before it, and is a lifetime 3-4. And the bullpen is simply a complete disaster.

Harang has gotten better every year and has the potential to be a very good #1. However I know I would have like to see them have gone out and got a top notch pitcher in the off season though...

You don't go out and get a #1 these days if you are a small market franchise. Doing so is risking everything for likely nothing. You continue to talk about the Reds like they are the Bankees or Green Sox. It's unrealistic and makes you come off as one who has little clue on how teams like the Twins, Marlins, Angels, Padres and others in a similar situation stay near the top. Draft well or get young talent for overpaid mid level position players and develop the talent and all is well, and in those terms the Reds needed a long rebuild after Leather Pants and Marge gutted all things related to being who the Reds are and need to be to survive. The right people are in place and the right talent is growing quickly as the VITAL farm system returns from a decades long slumber. The Reds aren't where they are because they didn't break the bank on a #1. Or #2. Or #3. They are where they are because the old guard thought developing that type of talent wasn't much of a necessity. And they were dead wrong...

He took less money to play for the Reds. The joke is that a hall of famer who did it the right way in this era, gets treated like crap by his own fans. That's the true joke.

Can't you grasp how important it was to fix the minors while letting the waste that was laid to the big and little aspects of the franchise weed itself out? 03, 04 and 05 were the prime of Colon's career and in the same age range that the Reds locked up Harang and Arroyo. March 20, 200719 yr We gave the World Series Champion every thing they wanted last year. We tapered off at the end and it caused us to miss to playoffs, but you can't say we will never contend.
