March 17, 200719 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2802320 Amaker dismissed after six seasons as Michigan coach ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach Tommy Amaker was fired Saturday, two days after his sixth season with the Wolverines ended with an 87-66 loss at Florida State in the NIT. Michigan went 22-13 this season and is losing four seniors. Amaker's record at Michigan was 109-83, with three 20-win seasons, but his teams went only 43-53 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines never made the NCAA Tournament under Amaker. Katz also believes that Kentucky coach Tubby Smith would be a candidate, if he's available. Michigan was on probation for the first five years Amaker was coach there. He led the Wolverines to three NITs and Michigan won the NIT in 2004. Amaker found out he was fired Saturday morning after meeting with Martin. After that meeting, Amaker held a team meeting. According to Katz, the general feeling is one of surprise that the decision and announcement came today.
March 17, 200719 yr Maybe Marshall will take a shot at Amaker. I was thinking more along the lines of Minnesota, but Marshall may not be a bad fit either...
March 17, 200719 yr Author Chris Lowery of SIU will get a strong look by Michigan. Tubby will have some openings after this year. Maybe Amaker wants a job.
March 17, 200719 yr It's Tony Bennett's job to lose. I'm not sure he would want to leave Washington State....
March 17, 200719 yr Bennett is from Wisconsin, played in the Big 10 (I think), and still has recruiting ties to the Midwest.
March 17, 200719 yr Bennett is from Wisconsin, played in the Big 10 (I think), and still has recruiting ties to the Midwest. True, but he was groomed for the WSU job for the past 3 seasons under his dad. I doubt he would have done that for 1 year. Factor in the fact that he is coaching in a "Big 6" conference, and I just find it hard to believe he leaves right now.
March 17, 200719 yr While doing a good job at Michigan, not making the tourney 6 straight seasons did him in. I read today where Michigan may have the most outdated facilities in the Big 10 right now and if they don't spend some money to upgrade, it may be tough to attract a top notch candidate.
March 17, 200719 yr Sometimes you have to ride the wave when it's high. Same thing happened to Dan Monson at Gonzaga a few years back when he bolted for the Minnesota job. That didn't work out. Other cases such as Tubby from Tulsa to Georgia have.
March 18, 200719 yr Michigan media reporting Amaker is out at Michigan. Andy Katz on ESPN Radio made the comment that it would be the perfect situation for.......... .......Tubby Smith. Interesting. I was listening when Katz made the comments. It was straight out of his brain and had no reasoning. Another example of trying to create news instead of reporting it.
March 18, 200719 yr Author He gave some reasoning behind it and they had just talked about Tubby and the irrational UK fans in the segment before. I do think Fletch may be on target with Bennett but I will stick to my guns and say SIU's Lowery.

I do think Fletch may be on target with Bennett but I will stick to my guns and say SIU's Lowery. He gave his own reasoning behind it. I'm not saying I disagree with that reasoning but it is a non-story. It was pure conjecture by Katz. Then Gottdweeb took off on the subject and it wasn't worth listening to.
