02 lost to Whitesburg by 5 in the final

03 lost to Powell by 1 in the semi final, Powell went on to go to Rupp

04 lost by 2 to Perry Central in the final

05 lost by 5 to Perry in the semi, Perry went on to Rupp

 

I just feel like they tend to change coaches in basketball around here way too often. Then you have to go through the "new system" stuff for a year or so, then a good year or two, then a down year, then a new coach and you start again. Looks like they would take a lesson from our football program where we have had stability for a long time. Coach Hall would have done as well if not better with this team IMO. The difference this year was the freshman class and a much improved Brandon Hays. Smith has a lot of skill but lacks tenacity. Hollon is inconsistant and pretty much a non factor most of the time. They will be a much better team next year with the experience they have now, but June Buchanan will be better also as will Perry Central and a lot of others.

Referees were certainly not the difference in this game. I think that when June Buchanan swatted two or three of Breathitt's shots in the first 3 minutes it sort of set the tone. I wish them luck from here on out and would like to watch them at Rupp, but Hazard would be ok with me also!

Well I don't know what happened, but I do know that June B is a pretty good team, not taking anything away from the Bobcats, but IMO June B is the better team.

 

I do too. IMO JBS has more talent than anyone in the region by far.

JBS's coaches had their team ready to play and they had Breathitt's coaches scratching their heads all night long. Someone said that JBS would get out coached in this game. I believe we can say they were definitely wrong. This game shows what a weak schedule will get you, beat!!! JBS did the same thing the last couple of years, play weak regular season schedule and then get beat come tourney time. You have to play tough competition all year long in order to be ready come regional tournament time. JBS won this game from a coaching standpoint and from a playing standpoint. They deserve this win and I wish them good luck. It was about time they played some team ball. Hopefully the young Bobcats will keep their heads held high and look forward to next season!!!!!

One has to wonder what Coach Hall might have been able to do with this bunch.

I would be first to say it wasn't the way the game was call that beat our BOBCATs,Young Stepp and his older brother and Best Shooter and maybe player on TEAM, Cox was the reason,and Yes, Collins did a Great job in the middle. Breathitt Bobcats will be back and we all know they will,i tell ya we have some of the best talent in state in our freshman Class,Fugate and Noble,Ritchie,Haddix,Cox,Stepp,and Stamper,and Hazard has a bunch of kids and this is just to say a few names and list goes on and i would say that they are none in state that can match our young athletes and i am so proud to say this,so the 14th region future looks bright and as a TRUE fan Of Sports here in Mountians,I love it and our kids are our Joy,and what else are there to say,Good Luck to all our Ball players and Teams ,we do care....

If you have attended the last two games you would see that the 12th region officials are not calling like they have all year in the 12th. (you would've had to watch a few games played in the 12th). I've heard from good sources also that there are certain people in Pippa Passas whom have pull with the referees that are selected for the 14th tourney. I'm not going to come out and say that JBS is being helped out, but there definitely something going on.

Contact the KHSAA with any documented proof you have but when you get beat by 21, it has absolutely nothing to do, with officiating, whom know who, something going on or officials.

 

JBS has played well all year, as have Breathitt. Let all of us, not take away or diminish any of their accomplishments.

Hate to beat a dead horse, I'm just saying that Breathitt was poised for a big year. I just think it needs to be said that Hall was done wrong at Breathitt.

 

I don't want to take anything away from their kids. Fact is the talent was there are the record is proof positive that any clown could have guided them to a good record this year. They are a nice group of players.

Would you like to revise your statement about the refs not being a factor. I just wonder how Brandon Hayes was much improved, Do you think it might have been a better coaching staff. The kid didn't even get to play that much last year. I am very proud of the bobcat team. They went from 4-23 to 25-4 But I guess that doesn't have anything to do with the coaching staff either.

I don't agree with people bad mouthing Coach Banks at Breathitt at all, but it really bothers me that people say that Coach Hall wouldn't of done the same thing with this team. :fire: He worked his butt off for this program and yes they had a rough RE-BUILDING year last year, and people that are saying they have the same team this year don't have a clue. Breathitt has an outstanding freshman class and at times they play all 5 of them. YOu can not tell me that they would of won all of those games without these freshman that they did not have last year. Coach Hall is a class act and he was done wrong, just like Coach Shannon Hoskins was done wrong when they brought in coach Hall from out of the blue. I don't think the problems with Breathitt county is with the coaching staff, it's a lot to do with how the administration treats them. All of the coaches they have had in the past worked hard, just like coach Banks and his staff did this year, And this season is what the kids deserve for all the work put in by them and the coaches of now and the past. I just wish people would stop comparing the last 2 seasons, because they are in NO WAY compairable. Not even a little. Congrats on a great year for the Bobcats, keep up the good work no matter who your coach is.

Great Post Master ,we are proud of the Bobcats,and yes, i am one that never wants to blame a loss on bad calls,it shows weakness,and we are not weak at BHS,and The Adminstration and Coaches have done their best to have what it takes for our Kids to be their best,and thats all we as Parents and fans can ask,Again Congrats to JBS,and Hazard we support whoever goes outta 14th region to sweet sixteen at Rupp,and we (Bobcat fans) will miss, Mr. Brandon Hayes as a Bobcat Player next year he is a Class Act,and thats whats it's all about in a Student/Athlete,fine Young Man i say,Thanks Brandon from all the Fans that enjoy the game of Basketball,Go Bobcats......

Coach Hall's run at Breathitt has really been under-estimated. He went to 2 reigonal finals, won two district tournaments out of 3 and had at least 2 20 win seasons. Coach Banks also did a good job this year, but people are blind if they believe this was the same team from last year. They started two freshmen, their six man was a freshmen and their 8th and 9th person off the bench were freshmen. This does not mean Coach Hall could have won the reigon but rather there is no comparison in the two teams.

I guess I'll stand by what I said earlier about the refs. As for Hays being better and improved? Some kids are late bloomers, he's probably one of them and that's not a coaching thing, neither is the tournaround on the W/L stats, at least in this case. Other's have pointed out the differences in the two teams so I won't go into it. I don't think the coaches are bad coaches, so you don't need to defend them with me. I'm just saying we had good coaches and a down/rebuilding year gave the new administration a reason to put a local crony inas coach. Very similar to when they got rid of Baker, except for the down year thing. In his case it was a new administration and a couple of vindictive parents.

I personally thought Baker did a great job of reviving the program and making it competitive, maybe he meant Baker instead of Hoskins?

I think any decent coach would have done about the same this year. I think the margin of defeat is something that stands out this year. Something went very wrong. I'm no coach by any means but the substitution rotation by Breathitt baffled me a bit. To start the 2nd half the teams were trading buckets but it was Channing Fugate doing Breathitt's scoring. After 2 min. he was on the bench and to me that's when things went from bad to worse with the margin.
