The fear of many coaches is that their player will not foul properly and get called for an intentional foul - 2 shots and the ball. IMO this is one of those situations that you have to work on in practice just like you work on your last-second offense. If you trust your defender, you let him dribble and once past half court, you foul PROPERLY. IF you do not trust him or have not worked on it, you take your chances on the 3.

You honestly think the recruiting is OK, Give me a break I use to watch Ky and take time off from what I was doing everygame. Just isnt fun watching this kind of ball. And I have my opinion ,, And I dont see where this is a Pro Sports forum

Oh my goodness, someone call the authorities...I hope you're surviving alright with recruiting not being up to your standards.

My point is that Tubby is a fine coach, the junior class was an outstanding recruiting class, he's about to score 2 McD's All-americans. I just find it funny that this thread was started by a Tubby-basher questioning play-call (which is totally fine) and then turned into a "Tubby can't recruit, I'm not happy, fire him" thread. It's unbelievable.

Anyone see the Texas/Texas A&M game a couple weeks ago when Texas fouled Law in the same situation to keep him making another three? He went to the line, made his first, then intentionally missed the second and nearly got the win with a putback. Just a risky call in my opinion, I think I let them have the shot, chances aren't good he makes that shot again.

They should've fouled him....

I just don't see him hitting another three point shot. That would've been three all in clutch situations. The best he could've done was to tie the game, if he would've made the putback Texas would've lost.

You did say "nearly," correct?

If you think the recruiting is ok, Then we will finish 5th in the sec every year > Im listing to a MAson County game today, Guess who is attendance Bruce Peal, Looking at a Ky player, Need I say more. I didnt say fire him,. I said get rid of the recruiting coaches he had,, Just a Opinion and no there is no need to call the authorities, Maybe just a Reality check to see where Ky is right now,,

Does anyone else remember how UK boxed out on a ft by Vandy???

That was with 25 seconds left. We are talking about 3 or 4 seconds left. Even if the shooting team gets the rebound they have to hurry their shot. Again, in this situation I have seen this done maybe 5 times in 40 years of watching ball. I have seen a team hit a 3 to tie at least 5 times this year alone.

Correct. NEARLY got the win. The rebounder had to hurry his shot because time was running out.

You are 100 % correct bearfacts

Yes, but the point I am trying to make is if it does go in the game is over, whereas if he makes the three point bucket its another OT. I understand fouling but its a risk that I wouldn't take as a coach, just my opinion.

How many how many how many........... How many coaches actually foul with less than 5 seconds on the clock up 3? It's not that common which is why you see way more 3's to tie it. UK was also out of timeouts at that point so it wasn't like Tubby could call them over and explain to foul, but not intentional, and what if they had tried to foul and he had made that 3? Foul shot to win it.

OK rememeber the Allan Houston debacle?

How many times have you seen a team hit a 3 pointer to tie? Over a hundred?

OK, how many times have you seen a team hit a FT, miss on purpose, get the rebound, and score to tie? Maybe a handful, if that. It is a no brainer to foul every time in that situation.

Mack, I believe you're exactly right.

For a team to tie a game with a three-pointer, only one thing has to go right - making the three-pointer. About a 30-35% probablilty.

For a team to tie a game after being put on the line, four things have to go right. Make the first free throw - about a 75% probability.. Miss the second, while still hitting the rim - I'll give you the 100% probability on that. Get the rebound - about a 25% probability. Make a shot from the field - let's say a 50% probability. About a one-in-ten chance for everything to go right. With just a few seconds on the clock; I'll foul before the shot EVERY TIME.

I've seen a heck of a lot of teams send a game into OT by making a three - a WHOLE BUNCH more times than in the second scenario.
