March 10, 200719 yr UK was also out of timeouts at that point so it wasn't like Tubby could call them over and explain to foul, but not intentional, and what if they had tried to foul and he had made that 3? Foul shot to win it. Good point. I did not see the game and was wondering about the TO situation. Not many college players are smart enough or have the guts to do it without the blessing of the HC.
March 10, 200719 yr Hind sight is 20/20. But if I'm coach, I tell my guys to jump in front of the dribbler and try to take a charge. If the charge doesn't work, worst case scenario they go to the line with about 2 seconds left. I tell my rebounders on the free throw to slap the ball, if they can't get it. That should at least waste 1.5 seconds. Making the other team have to throw up a desperation shot.
March 10, 200719 yr OK rememeber the Allan Houston debacle? Ref's forgot to call the Lane violation there.
March 11, 200719 yr You should probably foul, though you can make a sane argument against it. Of course, you should also make at least 1 FT (Morris) and you can't leave the lane during a FT since the 2nd grade (Thomas). All of this series of unfortunate events could have happened whether Billy D, Huggins, Knight, K, Roy, Lute or whomever was roaming the sidelines.
March 12, 200719 yr Author Anyone see the Texas/Texas A&M game a couple weeks ago when Texas fouled Law in the same situation to keep him making another three? He went to the line, made his first, then intentionally missed the second and nearly got the win with a putback. Just a risky call in my opinion, I think I let them have the shot, chances aren't good he makes that shot again. If you are up 3. He makes first and misses second, on purpose and then makes the basket, Where I come from that is still only 3 points ..??? Game tied...
March 13, 200719 yr If you are up 3. He makes first and misses second, on purpose and then makes the basket, Where I come from that is still only 3 points ..??? Game tied... Or gets fouled on the made basket after the missed FT. This happened to UK before. See posts 28 and 34.
