March 8, 200719 yr Byars led his team to a better position this season than Lofton did UT! Congrats to Jodie Meeks for a unanimous selection, well deserved young man! I thought that Vandy & UT tied for second place in the east, with Lofton out during 3 of the Vol defeats.

The stats are pretty much a wash, the records in the SEC were the same with Vandy getting the higher seed in the tourney. I think this one came down to the fact that Vandy was nowhere near as highly regarded in the preseason as UT and far exceeded expectations, plus Byars was a senior. Either one would have been a great choice.

March 8, 200719 yr I think Derrick Byars is more than deserving. Lofton missed a few games, that could've played a key factor. We all know Lofton is a great player. I'm still mad my boy Al Horford didn't get more votes, but go figure.

If you're going to say that the missed games were a factor with Lofton then maybe you'll understand why "your boy" Horford didn't get more votes. He missed 2 complete games and was severely limited in 2 others--just like Lofton.

I don't think this is a knock on the season Lofton had at all.
March 8, 200719 yr As has been stated on here many times coaches know a little more about the game than sports writers. Both were deserving, but Byars is a man.
