Belfry 71 Paintsville 66

Final

Awesome!!! Big time suprise. Paintsville ends the season with 2 straight losses.

Congrats to Belfry on the win.

It's amazing how Paintsville is so close to getting the district title and likely an "easier" first round game and instead they miss out on the district and are out in the 1st round of regionals.

For those from around the state who may not know about this game, this was a matchup between arguably 2 of the top 3 teams in the region. Belfry is red-hot right now led by Jaime Case who in my opinion is the no brainer choice for 15th Region Player of the Year. Belfry has won 10 straight games since Case returned from a two game suspension, and during Case's absence the Pirates lost twice to teams that they later avenged by defeating by 20+ points.

Case scored 26 tonight before fouling out with 3 minutes to go, Dustin May was a monster tonight scoring 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, andquite a few blocked shots. With Case out May stepped up and made numerous clutch free throws.

Painstville, which si heavily junior laden, was lead by JD VanHoose with 23.

First from the "Field of 128" to be eliminated.

And only one tonight. This was the only boys game in the state tonight!

Belfry has upset Landon Slone and his Paintsville tigers and have sent them packing after losing in the 1st round for the 3rd year strait. Does this team have to much talent?? Where do they go from here?? Anyway the way Jamie Case Playerd tonight for Belfry I say their is no question he will be the 15th region POY from the senior class, no one else is close to him at all.

.....Landon Slone was Held to only 8pts 6rebounds,Jamie Case had 24pts and several assist before fouling out of the game, May had 20pts and 10 rebounds...Vanhoose led Paintsville with 26pts I believe.

Next up for Belfry....Winner of Betsy Layne/Shelby Valley.

Paintsville does return 5 key players, including Landon Slone, but I doubt Team Turmoil will make it any further next year.

Upset????

Perhaps the talent level that was bestowed upon them for their future years three years ago never developed much past the stage of a couple of years ago. Projecting what a kid will be like as an 18 year old when they are only 14 is not an exact science and has hardly been perfected yet.

There were a lot of people making outrageous comparisons of Paintsville's young talent to some of the Tigers' great teams of the past a couple of years ago.

Frankly, this team isn't nearly as talented as some made it out to be. Paintsville has an All A Classic and 15th Region contender next season, but that's about as far as it goes.

That's what I was thinking. About a year and a half ago, the Paintsville fans were counting on three regional titles, like the group in the 80s.

I have to agree with you on the over-hyping of Paintsville.

They are a decent ballteam, no more and no less.

You have to have many other intangibles to go along with the basketball talent, this team has the talent to succeed, but doesn't have any of those other characteristics. From what I can tell, it seems that only 1 of those "star" players even tries to improve their game in the offseason.
