One of my favorite phrases....

Silver Grove has been a very, very tough out for us for the last two years.

 

We only beat them 11 back in the season opener, although I know everyone will say that we led by 18 late and didn't have Mutsch.

 

We did beat them rather handily at home in the "A" Regional, but again last night it was a war. Our superior bench depth and post play won out, but it certainly didn't come easy.

 

This year's district game was a carbon copy of last year's. The Trains battled and fought hard until the final horn and it was only a two possession ballgame under a minute.

 

We certainly bring out the best in them, and are always glad to advance past them.

 

Congrats to the Trains on a great season and on being NKAC Division III champs. You've certainly won our admiration and respect!

I agree about the fans and players for Brossart to show that much respect to Pelle gave me cold chills. SG played there butts off last night but just got cold in the fourth and could not hit a shot. The refs let them play last night there could of been a foul on almost every drive Pelle made. Mutsch for Brossart was impressive he crashed the boards and made things happen. Also gave Pelle a standing ovation as he went out very classy.

Very well said here, but there was one ADULT I saw behind the SG bench yelling things toward SG that I would be kicked off BGP for posting. I really hope this guy was a random jerk and not someone that has anything to do with BB in any way. Nothing makes me more mad than a grown nam yelling those type of things at high school kids. I think everyone will agree with that.

What happened to Uebel and Neimeyer last night? Seems like they were held in check. I thought they would have big games agains the smaller SG team.

Uebel had an "off" shooting night, but as always contributed in other ways, including some good "D" on Pelle, that made him work for his points. Mutsch had the hot hand last night, while Niemeyer kind of slept through the first half; earning him some "pine time" in the 2nd & 3rd periods. He came alive defensively near the end of the 3rd and hit a huge 3 and a put-back in the 4th when BB made their run, and ended with 7 and I'd guess about 7-8 boards.

Last night it was Nate Mutsch & Josh Kidney, along with Cooper, who will normally get his points every night in this offense!!

Uebel did have a really bad night shooting he banked a free throw off the backboard that did not even hit the rim at one point. SG did a good job of defense on him even though they gave up about 5 inches in size.

I thought this was a great game to watch last night. I really enjoyed it. Of course the team i would've liked to have seen come out on top didn't but i still believe it was a great game. It ended a great career by Corey Pelle. He will go down as one of the best to ever play at Silver Grove. He's a great player and just as great a person off the court. He will help out big time for whatever college he goes and plays for. He will make a huge impact. I also want to send my thanks out to the Brossart fans for the way they have treated Pelle this. Class act and it is very much appreciated. Everyone on the Brossart side (as well as the Silver Grove side of course) was standing and giving Corey a huge ovation as he was taken out of the game in the remaining few seconds of the ball game. Again, thank you to the Brossart fans and also to 'Mustang'. Great season by the trains this year, very enjoyable team to watch. Accomplished a lot this. Won the division III title (I believe the 5th out of the last 8 years). Great job by the coaching staff this year. Tony does a great job at having his played to play game in and game out. He should be and will be a respected coach for years to come. Keep up the good work Tony. You were a perfect fit for this team and this program. Looking forward to next season. Thanks Trains!! I don't post much but now is as good a time as any. I am an old St. Philip's kid who went to the Grove. Therefore, I looked forward to the Bishop Brossart games (we played at least twice each year) more than any other. Indeed, I played against friends, knothole teammates, and even neighbors. In fact, you threw out the records when we played. It was a war, but not in a bad way. You just did not want to look at those guys in the summer after being swept. But, it was nice to do it in the alternative:ylsuper:

 

When I was in high school, BB and SG were on equal footing. Over time, things changed. BB has grown into a much different animal than they were then. Note, I say that with no animosity. The Catholic boy in me welcomes the opportunity to boys and girls now available in the Southern end of Campbell County. Nevertheless, I lament the time that my alma mater had their rival - and make no bones about it - at one time, those were the two games that we looked forward to and the games were highly competitive.

 

However, I digress. I was a kid when Kenny Hedges was the best player that I ever saw wear the green and white. However, the torch has been passed. As good as Corey's Mom and Dad were (I went to school with both), their son remains the single best athlete that I have ever seen play for the Grove. To #4, congratulations on a great career. For you and all of the seniors, best of luck and this alum wishes you all the best.

Nathan Mutsch did not play in either of the prior two games. Brossart is successful because anyone can score on any give night.
