Lots of heart by Whitley — they took a two-point lead into halftime — but too much Crawford in the fourth quarter.

Crawford had 26 pts, nine in the fourth quarter to finally put the Colonels away. By my count, he had at least six rebounds and three blocked shots in the fourth.

 

Barley added 14.

 

For WC, McCumbers hit four 3s and went for 22 pts. Powers added 11.

 

Corbin finally seized control with an 18-7 run to start the second half, but WC didn't back down, and Corbin's lead fluctuated between 5-10 until the shots just quit falling for WC late.

Redhounds move on and I agree a very good effort by Whitley. Should be a loud packed house on Friday.

First of all I would like to congratulate Whitley County and Coach Deaton on a great effort. There is nothing I like more than watching a Mike Deaton team run and gun. If he sticks around next year, with the experience Whitley has returning, you could very well see Whitley in the region because they could play with Corbin or South Laurel.

 

As Coach Pietrowski said on the radio show, although they looked a little flat, you have to credit Whitley for making them look flatter. You could tell by the end of the first half that Corbin seemed to be looking ahead to South a little and Whitley was playing for their chance at region. The Hounds got a wakeup call and came out playing better in the second half. Crawford was just a man among boys and showed why many say he is the best player in the region despite being only a sophomre. Does anyone have any stats for him other than points? I know of 5 assist and 7 blocks to go along with the 26 points and plus 12 rebounds.

 

No team should overlook any team but you should especially not overlook a team coached by Mike Deaton. There is not another coach in this region that can make you pay like he can.

 

Congrats again Colonels on a valiant effort and Good luck to the Hounds on Friday night. I guarentee you will see the Hounds come out of that locker room with lighting shooting out their tails. If they aren't fired up for this one, they need to stay at the house. It'll be a dandy.

Whitley took the fight to Corbin tonight in the first half and the Hounds seemed frustrated and out of synch. Coach P. must have "helped" them get focused at the half and they played better in the second half.

The shots did not fall for Corbin in the first half. But they played hard and did not get frustrated. Crawford and Johnson could not throw one in the ocean the first half. Crawford played as well as I have ever seen him play. He owned the boards and made tough play after tough play tonight. Smith was a demon on defense.After Johnson started going to the hole he managed to put some points up. Crawford for Whitley made Josh Crawford earn every thing he got tonight. When he got in foul trouble it was a turning point. Whitley played very hard. All their kids got after it and they should be very proud of their effort. McCumbers made some big shots as did Powers tonight. I see nothing but positive for Coach Deaton next year.

I agree. Mike Deaton is as good a coach as you will find anywhere. He will have Whitley in the mix very soon. Count on it.

Corbin should be the team to beat in the 50th next year with Whitley not far behind then south and williamsburg.

Good effort by Whitley, nice game by McCumbers and Powers...For the Hounds I thought Crawford was the difference, he was a monster out there on the floor...

Whitley played a solid game and made some shots. McCumbers and Powers were the only Colonels in double figures. Whitley improved alot from the start of the season til the end. Their 8- 19 record does not reflect their potential. Corbin moves on and will have to play alot better to have any chance against the South Laurel Cardinals.
