CountyPride Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Who has the best feeder programs in their youth leagues? What are some of the good youth teams in your area?
BaseballFan13 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Pikeville and Paintsville always have strong feeder programs...
Hilltopper2005 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Harrison County has had in the past but the quality of the coaches and players has diminished over the past few years. It used to be that most all of the Cal Ripken teams had at least 5 or 6 good players on them and now most teams are lucky to have 3 good players. Kids and parents are not as dedicated as they used to be.

Does he still do that?

I do agree the numbers are down but I believe that the quality is still high. Harrison Co. had a 8th grader through a perfict game last year against Deming in the district tourn. At times last year the breds started three 8th graders. Harrison Co also has a lravel team called Ky. Terror this wiil be the third year for this team and they have never finished worse then second in any tourn. They will play as 12 year olds this year. So i think the feeder program is still strong.
STRIKE3 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 What type of leagues are there? Cal Ripken? Any travel teams in those areas? Both began in Little League and Pikeville has switched to Cal Ripken, in the last 3-4 years. Pikeville has had a LL program over 50 years and likewise in Paintsville. Paintsville has a streak of at least 20 years, with one team playing in a KY State Tournament. Traveling teams in both cities, from youth in Paintsville, to both in Pikeville. Owensboro and Campbellsville, are you very good youth area programs. I watched some tremendous talent, come from these leagues over the last 20 years.
Diamond Dandy Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Most of the Boone and Kenton County Schools are improving through involvement in the Cincinnati AABC league, which is very competitive. Where several years ago only a few players participated, more and more Northern Kentucky teams are playing 40 to 50 competitive AABC games compared to the 15 or 20 they used to play in knothole baseball.
Coachg13207 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Boone Co. does not have middle school programs to feed the high schools . The AABC league is great for no.Ky teams to play against better teams from Cincy and now Dayton and Indy teams are traveling in to this league because of the competition . Some good teams that are feeding the high schools starting this year are Ky. Sharks ,No. Ky. Monarchs , Bluegrass Knights and No. Ky. Bats . These teams will start the summer season late because many of them have 8 th graders that are going to make high school teams . A qoute from a high school I heard was that the best knothole kids are not even close to what the kids who have been playing select .This was his take on the kids trying out at his school . I know there are some very talented kids who play knothole , little league , cal ripken etc that could play select but do not for personal reasons . It just seems overall select players that play teams from all over are more prepared for high school ball .

I am surprised that our High School is always as good as they are, because there is not as much emphasis placed on youth baseball in Boyd County as there used to be. We have 2 Little Leagues and from what I hear a third league pretty much folded due to lack of players.

The Counselor Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 At least you guys have a feeder program! Our school doesn't even have a feeder program. We are K-12 so if they do not go to our school we don't have anyone else coming in!
BigBlueBash Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Run down of U-14 AABC teams and HS's that will benefit. NKY Monarchs: One 9th grader played JV as an 8th grader at Boone. There are several other kids that would make HS teams if they have tried out. The kids on this team will go to CCH, Boone and Campbell county schools. NKY Reds: There are two 8th graders that should play JV at Dixie if they try out. Again, there a a number of other kids that would make the Frosh or JV teams as 8th graders. I think most of these kids go to Turkeyfoot or some other midde school of Dixie. Bluegrass Knights: Have four 8th graders that will play Frosh and JV at Beechwood this year, two 9th graders that made the Ryle JV squad, two 8th graders that made the Boone Co. JV team, and a 9th grader that plays JV/Varsity at Bellevue. NKY Sharks have players that will go to Boone county schools and a couple from Holy Cross It is not out of the question that a number of these kids will play varsity at some time this season. All of these teams, more often than not, beat the Ohio and Indy AABC teams (national and american divisions). AABC is without a doubt going to make NKY baseball more competitive. We should start seeing more results over the next couple of years.

These players probably are really great players, but you have to realize also that AABC Baseball has actually went downhill in all of other areas other then Northern KY. AABC Baseball used to be one of the elite sanctions in KY, and now has become non existent. Ky does not even have a State Representative or State Tournament anymore. But like I said, nothing against those young men, they sound like superb players. But even though AABC is pretty much non existent in Boyd County now, it has produced the most elite players in Boyd County.
