Question Regarding 2006 4A Final Results

Featured Replies

If you are a Ryle fan, why do you care about a BGP Poll that seems to "snub" you? They can call your path to state a joke. they can tell you that X, and Male, and Henry Clay would have beaten you. Heck, they can rank you 25th. Buth the fact remains; other than Trinity fans, all other 4A teams and fans had a less successfull season.

That is a fairly ludicrous statement. Ryle would have physically dominated every team in Trinity's district this season except for Trinity. I will say Male's side is tougher, but Male, St. X and Trinity were the only teams better than Ryle in Louisville.

Not so fast there. Admittedly the Male side is tougher, but I saw Ryle play Trinity. Ryle played as well as Fern Creek, Eastern or Seneca played Trinity. IMO, Ryle would have been "in the mix" in Trinity's district, but would not have beaten Ballard. I really don't think they'd have beaten Eastern, Seneca or Fern Creek, but the games would have been fairly close. I'll give them 2/3 in those games to get them into the playoffs. They most DEFINITELY wouldn't have gotten past Male, and would have been trounced by Henry Clay.

My top 5 would be:

Trinity

Male

St.X

Manual

Henry Clay

6-10 too close to call because there's such a drop-off after those 5. I don't see much difference in any of the teams that fall in that range.

Great post becase Henry Clay is in Lexington and they were better.

I didn't disagree that Ryle was five.

You can't run the ball nearly every play in the 'Ville and be successfule in a ten game schedule.

There is a huge drop off in Louisville after T, X, and Male. Ryle was good enough at what they did this year to beat any other team in the city besides those three.

Not true.

There may be the drop of you mention, but you still have to pass well and often to beat:

Manual

Ballard

Seneca

Eastern

PRP

Butler

Fern Creek

And those are just the 4A teams.

Even a 4A team without a pass would struggle with some 3A and 2A teams here in Louisville. (Central, Western, Holy Cross, DeSales, for example)

If Ryle were a 3A team in Northern Kentucky, they wouldn't even have gotten past the first round, as The Team from Ft. Thomas would have beat them. Ryle had the benefit of playing against a rather poor NKy 4A division this year, yes they beat who they had to beat to get to the 4A finals, but a top ten team.......Sorry......

Check the facts. Most of those teams you dismiss gave Trinity a much better game. The district would have ended up Trinity, Ballard, Eastern and then FC, Shelby and Ryle in a toss-up for 4th, 5th and 6th. Ryle had the worst offense Trinity played all year. I've got a copy of the tape if you would like to review it.

I agree with everything besides them not being a top ten statement. I think they would fall into a 7-9 slot.

PRP, Ballard, Manual..and probably Fern Creek, off the top of my head.

94 Camel,

I want to give Ryle the benefit of the doubt and say they had a bad night, but that was the worst offense I saw all year from a Trinity opponent. I thought we were watching Army footage from the forty's. That offense is more antiquated than Glaser's, and that's saying something. It simply doesn't work against top flight teams.

The speed is much different than what Ryle usually sees. You may recall the Fern Creek game in 2005.

I thought Ryle's defense did a great job though. You know I just typed that and realized they gave up 41 points, and held Trinity to field goals on a few occasions.

The bigger question is: How bad was Henderson County, the team Ryle blew out by 30-40 in the semis???

First of all, Fern Creek the year before had a very talanted senior class that graduated, where as Ryle had most of their team back this season. Ryle last year lined up and ran over most people they played. I didn't see a team in Louisville, besides the big three last year, that would have matched up physically. Don't get me wrong, their offense wasn't difficult or explosive, but it is an offense that you can't stop if you can't match up in the trenches.

As I stated in an earlier post, there is a huge drop off after the top three in Louisville.

Maybe....but you but besides us, I am pretty sure you weren't ready for Louisville Teams' speed....there is a ton of it here.

All of the teams you dismiss were much faster than Ryle. You are correct in stating that Ryle would have had more success against them than they (Ryle) did against Trinity. However, Ryle probably would have had a difficult time stopping Ballard, Eastern, etc. from scoring as well. Most of the teams in Louisville 4A can pass the ball pretty well. Ryle had little or no ability to stop the pass. The Raiders would find it pretty rough going week to week in Louisville. JMO.

Ryle had a great deal of ability to stop the pass. Trinity scored six points in their first three possessions. You are putting 41 points on their defense in the final game. Trinity had a multitude of offensive opportunities in the first half produced by a lack of offense in the power I. There was only one team last year that threw the ball with much sucess against Ryle, and that was Trinity. IMO, you are underestimating their ability to match up defensively against some very average football teams. Also, IMO, these teams would not have begun to match up with Ryle in the trenches. All said, I still don't see a solid argument for their being more than four teams better than Ryle in AAAA last year.
