Question Regarding 2006 4A Final Results

Featured Replies

There was only one team last year that threw the ball with much sucess against Ryle, and that was Trinity.

That may be true, but in the playoff win over Dixie, the Colonel receivers were open most of the night. The Dixie qb couldn't get the ball to them or they dropped passes. I said so before the T/Ryle game that T would be able to pass on Ryle.

Ryle had a great deal of ability to stop the pass. Trinity scored six points in their first three possessions. You are putting 41 points on their defense in the final game. Trinity had a multitude of offensive opportunities in the first half produced by a lack of offense in the power I. There was only one team last year that threw the ball with much sucess against Ryle, and that was Trinity. IMO, you are underestimating their ability to match up defensively against some very average football teams. Also, IMO, these teams would not have begun to match up with Ryle in the trenches. All said, I still don't see a solid argument for their being more than four teams better than Ryle in AAAA last year.

I've avoided saying this BUT Ryle's D got a huge assist from Mother Nature in the championship game. I can recall at least 3 unforced drops that stopped drives for Trinity. Without the rain Trinity scores at will on that D, they were average at best. Trinity was able to pass and run against them. Hang your hat on holding Trinity to 41 if you would like but remember Trinity held that juggernaut to ZERO points until they had their deep reserves in the game. Ryle was completely one dimensional. Once Trinity took the run away from Ryle they were done. The game was over at halftime.

I would rank Trinity's in state opponents like this:

1. Male

2. Henry Clay

3. X

4. Ballard

5. Manual

6. Fern Crfeek

7. Ryle

8. Eastern

9. Southern

10. Shelby County

Sorry but I heard all this on this board prior to the championship game. You know..."Ryle can defend the pass, but they haven't needed to" and "Ryle can pass but they won't need to". But in the final analysis it was one of the worst beatings in 4A history on a night when the weather was a gift for the "more physical, smash mouth" team from Ryle. Did Ryle manage a first down in the first half? The fact is I saw the teams I'm posting about and I saw Ryle. IMO Ryle would fall a notch below the other teams from Louisville. Not last place but in the bottom half. Have you seen any of the teams we are talking about? If not, I don't see how you can make much of an argument.

Well if you were to go by common opponents, take PLD. If PLD had an offense that was at least average, they'd beat Ryle. Henry Clay crushed PLD. They a really fast.

Ryle completely shut down PLD in every aspect of the game!

If you are a Ryle fan, why do you care about a BGP Poll that seems to "snub" you? They can call your path to state a joke. they can tell you that X, and Male, and Henry Clay would have beaten you. Heck, they can rank you 25th. Buth the fact remains; other than Trinity fans, all other 4A teams and fans had a less successfull season.

NICE:thumb:

If Ryle were a 3A team in Northern Kentucky, they wouldn't even have gotten past the first round, as The Team from Ft. Thomas would have beat them. Ryle had the benefit of playing against a rather poor NKy 4A division this year, yes they beat who they had to beat to get to the 4A finals, but a top ten team.......Sorry......

I could've sworn that this thread was about class 4a i might be wrong though.
