2007 Mason County

Featured Replies

I just read all the pleasant remarks regarding Coach Buchanan on BGP. Everyone seems to be right on the mark as to what I witnessed last evening. Saw Coach Buchanan in action last night at a 7 on 7 in N Ky. I remarked to my spousal unit as well as to my son that the head coach of Mason County had a lot of class. He was very congratulatory to the opposing team and he was full of encouragment to his squad throughout the 7 on 7. And yes, he has that southern Kentucky draw! Reminds me of a former coach that went on to finish his career in Harrison Co. many years ago.

The Royals starting and 2nd string QB seemed to struggle last evening. I was very surprised as I have heard of great expectations of Cox. Cox has great size, good speed - but had trouble with the touch pass and the deep ball finding its target. Trouble one wouldn't expect without a pass rush, blitzing LBs and Safety.

The defensive unit seemed to play much better. Cox seemed to be in great shape as he played the Safety spot throughout the eveing. The DBs played pretty well. Looks like Defense will the key this year for a sucessful campaign.

I hope the Royals can turn things around this Summer. It will be fun to watch their progress when they start playing real ball! Good Luck to a well respected Coach and to his team!

What you probably don't realize is that Mason lost their starting receivers and some backups from last year. Cox will be fine once he and the receivers are on the same page. Most of the passes you are probably referring to would be blown routes or just great coverage by an excellent defensive team versus inexperienced receivers. 9 times out of 10 Cox would take off and good luck tackling him one on one. The Royals will be hitting on all cylinders come game #1. It was great to go against a team like highlands in the scrimmage to run with their kids, etc. I'd say we did well at our place and they did well at their place. Good for both teams.

I wish the team the best of luck this season. It's fun to watch a team in these meaningless 7 on 7's and track their progress during the season. I am sure you are 100% regarding the new receivers - blown routes and developing that important relationship with the QB.

Go Royals!

I wish ChiefSmoke his staff and players the best of luck in the comming season and I know Mason County will be ready to play when the season starts. Good Luck my friend. JD

The "skills" positions will definately have to step it up this year for Mason, which is diferent from the last couple years when the lines were on the choppin block. Look for a strong running game from the new Royals, and who knows, maybe a passing game that could surprise us all. Cox has got the arm, time to see if hes got the head.

^ He will most certainly need the arm and the head; but may rely on his legs more than anything else this year.

I guarantee you he has the head. His dad is a coach in Ohio and played at the University of Dayton and then Ohio State. He has been doing presnaps reads and reading coverages since he was having punch and cookies time in grade school. Plus he is a 4.0 student with a 30 on his ACT which he took once. Ask coach B Richie is a student of the game.

He is OK in my book. The 30 on the ACT will land him in D3 for sure, and if he has a standout year - DI will be calling in the winter! Good Luck to the young man...

There are some D1s that are recruiting him. Not as a quarterback but as a defensive player or athlete.

Yale and Harvard are interested in him for his academics.

Wether he plays football at the next level or not Cox will be a success.

Actually their have been several D-I's recruiting Richie - Cincinnati, Louisville, Kentucky, Duke, UConn, Army,Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky. MAC schools and all the Ivy League schools. This year will be a big factor. He did excellent at camps including Ohio State's where some MAC coaches liked him. I mean 6'4" 210, runs a consistent 4.7 forty(ran a 4.56 during testing - check out weightroom record board), benches 355, runs a 4.3 pro shuttle. Plus he is only 16 somebody is going to get him. He'll be at the next level.

I worded that wrong. I should have said No matter where Cox plays he will be a success, wether it is in football or in the classroom. And will be a sucess long after his football days are over. Just that type of young man. :thumb:

Mason has three other college prospects Brace who benchs 360 Marshall, western ky and others Tolle eastern ky,western ky,indiana state and the mac schools also benchs 325lbs and ran a 4.64 40 at western ky camp,Huron 320 bench naia schools and d-2. The four seniors have been in the wars and will make Mason very srong, alot of college coachs will be seen in the stands at Mason county this fall.
