Does OTS's future rest with two recruits for 07?

Featured Replies

Are you kidding me?
Sadly, no. By this time the main ingredients should be set in place for the next season. UK is holding on to its breath to sign some top notch recruits late in the recruiting game to secure a good (possibly great) class. It happens on occassion having to wait for committments (eg. Morris) and some kids like to take a longer time in deciding, which is perfectly alright, but it has become common practice, which is not good. The great classes are secured well in advance, as a rule.

If we are focused on the 07' recruits we're in deep trouble next year. He didn't hire or fire anyone on his staff. Blaming the "orginization" is a lot like firing your strength coach...... COP OUT!!!!!
:D Although I do think firing the strength coach was a step in the correct direction, other changes certainly have to be made. Theoretically speaking, all organizations are only as strong the leadership; I honestly feel Tubby can coach with the best of them but the other areas he needs some improvement.

Even the most ardent supporters of Tubby, including me have seemingly taken a step back and feel that a change at the top is needed.

Obviously, there are games left to be played that can really change the mood of the program. Actually for better and worse.

3 games ago things were rosy. 3 losses later and the BBN is wanting blood.

With that, could OTS future be held in the hands of Jai Lucas and Patrick Patterson?

Now we are talking about a coach who has landed exactly 2 first round draft picks in the last decade.

Both Lucas and Patterson fill voids in the program, particularly Patterson with the impending departure of Morris.

If OTS whiffs and Morris leaves...I think you may just see OTS ride off into the sunset.

If the latter were to happen...how bad will the PR be against UK, in running OTS out?

Will it be harsh?

WIll it depend on the next coach?

Will it be justified?

1st off, your comment contradicts itself...You say OTS rides off in the sunset and then you say UK running OTS out...I take this to mean, OTS chooses to ride off in the sunset, therefore, how can the UK PR be effected, since they wouldn't be running him off....

Now, if I just misunderstood and you are saying that UK forces him out, then I think all 3 apply...It would be too harsh, IMO. I'm a realist and understand how parity has affected the game. This is evident when only 3 teams in all of College Basketball have less than 4 losses and 4 of the Top 10 teams have more than 4...It would also depend on the next coach...If UK brings in a proven recruiter and X's and O's man, there will be a good 2year honeymoon period and then another 2 years of the give him a chance to bring in his own guys and then judge him(ala;Rich Brooks). I, personnally feel it wouldn't be justified because of my comment about it being too harsh, but, yet another poor recruiting class and 10 loss season would make a decent argument...

No contradiction.

Point is, UK will not fire Tubby Smith.

Tubby would leave on his own, maybe for a year off, or even a NBA gig.

However, the perception would be that UK drove him off. The fans and expectations, maybe the big money and administration didn't help deflect the criticism.

If Tubby leaves the perception will be that he was pushed out the door.

Thereinlies the perception aspect of it, PR wise.

There is a chance KY will not win again this season. The only "patsy" is LSU. There is a possibility that he will finish in the bottom half of the SEC East. He's setting an all-time record at KY for most losses over 2 years, most 10 loss seasons in a row, and if they don't make the final 4, most consectutive years without a Final 4 appearence. He was "gifted" Rajon Rondo and took everythink he did well away. Rajon was hand-cuffed cancer or not he could have been a GREAT point guard in a better offense. Tubby realized this and said they were going to run and gun. Then they didn't!!! What is the reason for keeping Tubby because there are plenty of reasons to remove him. He makes too much money and is not having success and the "cycle" arguement is bogus because he doesn't have a good thing on the horizon. He has what ifs...... I'm tired of the what ifs...........

Like you I am tired of empty promises. We are going to run more, there will be major changes, yada, yada, yada. We are feed the same crap year in and year out.

With that said how do all of you feel about the new strength coach that was supposed to be the cure all? All I read was how UK would be greatly improved due to the new S&C program. I personally think the old S&C coach was a scapegoat, I wonder who will be this years scapegoat and what promises will be made.

That gets to me more than anything is that changes in weak areas are slim to non-existent. As a head coach how could you even let a S&C coach slip? Wouldn't you be on that? Wouldn't you know what he's doing? How could you let him slide? Was Rondo and Sparks the cancer? What about Morris and Crawford and Bradley? Poor recruiting classes? Questionable character on the court? People wanting to leave? 2 people left KY to not play in the NBA. One was forced back and didn't want to play hard against Florida and Alabama and numerous other games/plays. What if Bogans hadn't hurt his ankle? What if Brandon Wright or C-Lo or Brewer had come to UK? What if we stopped trimming the garden and started picking the roots?

Compared to Bobby Perry and Sheray Thomas he's Jordan......

LOL....I agree 1000%

Old news.. I have said this all along. Tubby can't keep striking out, when he does it equals all of these multiple loss seasons. There is big pie in the recruiting game and we just aren't getting our piece anymore, while other SEC teams are.

Meeks is a man baby!

I think to get the talent level back to where UK is accustomed, they need to sign at least Patterson.
