I'd run a 4 guard offense next year if that were the case. Jasper, Bradley, Crawford, Meeks, and a 7-footer. We'd shoot 35 3's a games.

Thats a fair number of 3's from 2 players. They both can shot them and I would say if we had others who could too Tubby would let them fire away.

How many games have you seen them not look to shoot until late? Then they dictate and initiate offense. Tubby ball doesn't generate offense. When Crawford and Bradley try to force the issue early (or anyone else) he takes them out. A shooter has to find a rhythm. The only thing Bobby Perry is sometimes good at on offense is 3's. I think KY would be better right now running the WV offense.

I am a huge Tubby fan and I am upset w/some things. However, Tubby Smith is not getting fired at the end of this season or any other season. We COULD have won the last 3 games we lost just as easily as we lost them, we are inches away. The recruiting has improved, the organization of the recruiting has improved, it will take some time but UK and Tubby will be alright!

With the addition of Finney, '08 recruits are visiting at an all-time best for Tubby. For once, UK is on the early list for some good recruits for the next season. Many of the kids UK recruits they have been getting in on too late in the game. I believe that is what he is referring to when he says, "Recruiting organization." This time last season there would not be any work being done for '07 recruits.

I really don't see a great improvement in recruiting. Even with Patterson I don't think this class is better than last years of Meeks, Jasper, Porter, Stevenson, and now Harris.

 

I actually think last years class has potential but I have concerns about their development. For instance, why in the world did we not redshirt Harris and/or Porter and why hasn't Stevenson been given more opprotunities?

Which begs the question why? Why did it get to that point? I'm not trying to be hyper critical but I just don't understand how this could happen. It is almost like Smith just quit working the recruiting trails. Or a least he did every other year.

I got this information from a fellow that uses the moniker KSRSpock. This guy used to break down games and so forth with some great analysis.

He listed 5 issues with OTS and he has been an ardent supporter.

This is probably the best analysis of the OTS situation at UK.

 

1. His ability to land his top recruiting targets has been spotty, at best. While the overall recruiting numbers haven't been too bad, in general, his best successes have very rarely happened in successive classes. What's worse, things seem to be trending downward. Smith's been more and more active looking for marginal talent by necessity in the spring, and it's clearly catching up to him on the court.

 

2. Player evaluation, something that was hard to judge in his first few seasons at Kentucky, has also been somewhat problematic. Smith's certainly found some hidden gems over the years, and every coach, no matter the eye for talent, makes mistakes. But the missed opportunities are piling up. In a decade at UK, Smith has recruited just 2 first-round draft picks, a number that isn't helping his ability to sign talent going forward.

 

3. Motivation and development of players has also been less than stellar, especially with the players Smith has recruited himself rather than inherited from his predecessor. Smith's had his fair share of studs as well as raw talents that just didn't pan out, at least to the level many expected when they first arrived. What's most troubling, however, is how many of his teams have lacked that competitive fire.

 

4. Many of his players just haven't appeared happy to be in the program. Turmoil has been close to the surface far more often than not, a reason, IMO, we've seen less direct player contact with the media in recent years. Every single season Smith has been here, he's had one or more key transfers and/or early departures. Few coaches are able to inspire lottery picks to return for another year in the trenches, but too many of Smith's players have leapt at the first opportunity.

 

5. Smith has only once hired outside the JD Barnett circle of friends, and he showed last season, that despite enormous pressure to do otherwise, he wasn't going to break the mold. Smith needs a proven, blazing hot recruiting assistant to turn the tide and an offensive mind at his right hand to shake up his tactics on that end of the floor. He has neither and has shown that he's in no hurry to get either one. The most successful coahces have a staff that bolsters their shortcomings, shores up any weaknesses. Smith does not.

Are you kidding me? If we are focused on the 07' recruits we're in deep trouble next year. He didn't hire or fire anyone on his staff. Blaming the "orginization" is a lot like firing your strength coach...... COP OUT!!!!!

Which is why the constant talk about missing out on Lofton is a moot point, IMO...Lofton would have never had the same opportunities and freedom at UK that he has at Tennessee...and without that, he wouldn't have been anything close to the player at UK that we're seeing at Tennessee. I'm glad we passed on him. It gave him a chance to show what he can do, rather than being handcuffed in Tubby's non-motion offense. That is, if he would have even cracked the starting lineup for UK.
