The undefeated Ashland Blazer Tomcats host Johnson Central this week in hopes of keeping their undefeated streak going. Johnson Central is coming off a six-point loss to Greenup County, a team that Ashland won by two touchdowns earlier this year. Johnson Central, sitting at 3-6, has certainly taken their lumps this year.

The Ashland offense has only be held to less than 20 twice this year. It is hard to imagine that Johnson Central is going to be able to contain them. However, if by some chance they do get them into a rock fight, this may be interesting. A Johnson Central win would force this district into a three-way tie.

Could be Ashland by a whole lot.

Makes me wonder what happened to JC.

They lost a lot up front due to graduating. Lost a couple to Paintsville. And I know their QB didn't come back out this year, he's a really good basketball player. I believe they're very young.

Can't overstate the bolded enough. I think last year's line was one of the best they've had since Jim Matney got things rolling twenty years ago. There was too much to replace at such a crucial position.

JC has been Ashland's boogeyman over the years. A lot of good Tomcat teams were denied deeper playoff runs because of Matney's mountain men. The gap has narrowed since realignment renewed the series in '23, and Ashland looks like a prohibitive favorite for the first time since the early 2000s.

My confidence in a Tomcat win is tempered, only because JC will almost assuredly get up for this. It's an opportunity to dash an unbeaten season and do it at Putnam Stadium.

I think Ashland wins. Could be a little, could be a lot. But this is definitely a game worth following this week. Late October, chill in the air, an undefeated regular season on the line, and bragging rights in a heated rivalry. It should bring out the best in both sides.

Braxton Perry around right end for a JC touchdown.

7-0 Golden Eagles

7-7 Ashland after a 60 yard touchdown pass.

Ashland immediately responds with a deep ball to Justin Hughes.

7 all

JC looked suprisingly good on that first drive the defense got to step up.

14-7 Ashland after a nice drive 20 yard touchdown pass to a wide open reciever.

14 all very nice drive from JC there.

I hope JC can keep up the momentum. A win here would be good for them (and for Belfrys RPI)
