Oldham County (2-0) travels across county to North Oldham (1-1) this Friday (9/4/2026) for a the first of three big inter-county battles between the three Oldham schools.

North Oldham enters the game 1-1 after a 42-0 spanking of North Bullitt (0-2) last week. In week 1, Lafayette topped the Mustangs, 28-14.

Senior QB Brodie Pfeiffer leads the way for North Oldham, which has a reasonably sophisticated passing attack. Against the Eagles, Pfeiffer was 15 of 21 for 227 yards and 3 TDs, with no picks. Pfeiffer is also adept at running the ball; against Lafayette he struggled through the air, going 10 for 26, but he led the Mustangs on the ground with 94 yards rushing. Pfeiffer's ability to throw the ball will present a challenge to Oldham; the Colonels have probably not seen a passing attack the quality of North's in their first two games against DeSales and Shelby County.

Last week, everything went right for North as they accumulated 128 yards on the ground, with six different runners carrying the ball, and threw for 232 yards. Conner Nesmith and Jackson Davis both had 5 catches for the Mustangs and both scored. Defensively, Brodie Dressel had 9 total tackles, and the Mustangs as a team racked up 6 sacks and recovered 3 fumbles.

On the Oldham side, it's also the QB who leads the way. Junior QB Javy Tucker will get his third-ever start on Friday, and he's led the Colonels to a 2-0 start on the season. Like Pfeiffer, Tucker is a run/pass threat. He was 10 of 14 for 161 yards and 3 scores against DeSales, while running for a fourth TD. In a 30-12 win over Shelby, Tucker was 12 of 23 for 279 yards and a TD. For the season, Tucker is completing just a tick under 60% of his passes for 440 yards, 4 scores, and only one interception, with just one sack.

6'0" 170 pound sophomore wideout Cayenne Rankin is off to a hot start for Oldham, and he exploded against Shelby, catching 6 passes for 194 yards and a score. The Colonels' speedy receiver repeatedly beat the Shelby secondary and caught wide-open passes, including a long of 47 yards.

On defense, Oldham is led by MLB Jess Officer, a junior. Officer had 100 tackles to lead Oldham last season, as a sophomore, and has 16 tackles in the first two games of the year, with 6 TFL.

WEATHER UPDATE: As of now, the kickoff time has been moved to 8 pm. It's very possible that it could be moved back further; the air temperature is supposed to hit 98 degrees tomorrow and stay there from about 3-5 pm, however, it is currently expected to have "cooled" to about 92 degrees by 8 pm.

This could be a very closely contested game. Both teams have reason to believe that they can and will win. Neither has faced an overly competitive schedule so far. A win for either will start to validate their progress so far, early in the season. Both teams have potentially emotional rivalry games next week, as Oldham travels to play Collins on the road and North Oldham squares off against intra-county rival South Oldham.

Nice win for the 4A Mustangs. Not good for the 6A Colonels.

Strong defense against the Oldham run game for North Oldham was huge in the Mustangs' win. Oldham came in averaging over 5 yards per carry, but North kept Oldham to just 3.8 yards / carry, unofficially, on the night. Oldham managed just three carries of over 10 yards, with the longest - 18 yards - by fullback Caisyn Lee.

Oldham QB Javy Tucker had a rough start, throwing two picks in his first three throws, but finished strong, completing 9 of 16 afterward, with two TDs and no INT. His gutsy play in the fourth brought Oldham to within 6 yards of cutting what had been a 20 point North lead down to just a touchdown.....Tucker finished 10-19-2 204 yards 2 TDs, and added 7 carries for 27 yards.

North QB Brodie Pfeiffer looked in control all night. He repeatedly found holes in the Oldham pass defense on the underneath routes, and though he did throw a pick when he tried to burn the Colonels' 1-deep defense on a long ball. Credit Oldham with pretty much taking away his ability to run, and North pretty much dropped that from their offensive playbook after failing to get much with Pfeiffer's legs. Pfeiffer especially looked impressive on quick-timing routes, and he negated much of Oldham's well-documented ability to pressure the backfield by getting ready of ball fast and on -target.

A tribute to both Tucker's and Pfeiffer's elusiveness, neither was sacked on the night.

North MVP would have to be the talented running back, Ronin Renton, who showed remarkable leg drive and escapability all night. Oldham couldn't seem to keep him from getting through the first two layers of the defense, and he found the end zone twice. Really impressed with this young man. His ability to gain yards on the ground was the difference-maker in the game.

Oldham sophomore WR Cayenne Redmon continues to impress, snagging 6 passes for 98 yards, including a 28 yard TD where he beat all the defenders and caught the ball on the fly in the end zone. For the season the talented receiver already has 15 catches for 342 yards.

Oldham County sophomore kicker Rowan Williams continues to make noise. Rowan kicked two field goals from 41 and 32 yards, and remains perfect on the season, having hit all 9 of his PATs and all three of his FGs.

The weather and the rivalry combined to really wear on both teams. By the fourth quarter, the heat / humidity / intensity had both teams physically dragging (visibly), and the game was frequently stopped for players suffering from cramps. Thankfully, neither team appeared to suffer any kind of injuries beyond that.

North Oldham faces South Oldham next week, meaning they have to rev up their emotions for another rivalry matchup.
