The Lexington Christian Academy Eagles (1-0) take on the Pulaski County Maroons (1-0) on Saturday, August 29, in the opening game of the Rebel Bowl at Boyle County. Both teams enter the matchup coming off impressive opening-week victories and looking to build momentum before moving deeper into their schedules. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., followed by Bryan Station vs. Boyle County.

LCA opened its season with a convincing 28-7 victory over North Hardin in the eCampus.com Bowl. The Eagles controlled the game from the second quarter on, building a 14-0 halftime lead and holding the Trojans scoreless through three quarters before securing the 21-point win.

Pulaski County also started the year in impressive fashion, defeating Henderson County 41-16. The Maroons showed strong offensive production at home and enter Week 2 after a game in which they scored more than 40 points and won comfortably.

Matchups to Watch

One of the biggest storylines will be LCA's defense against Pulaski County's offense. The Eagles allowed just seven points in their opener and were able to keep North Hardin off the scoreboard until late in the game. Pulaski County presents a different challenge after putting up 41 points in Week 1. Something has to give between an LCA defense that started the season strong and a Pulaski County offense that looked explosive in its opener.

Another key matchup will be overall team physicality and line play. Pulaski County has consistently been known as one of the more physical programs in Class 5A, while LCA showed against North Hardin that it can handle a larger-school opponent. The battle at the line of scrimmage may ultimately determine which team controls the tempo and field position.

Special teams and momentum swings could also play a major role. Early-season bowl games often come down to which team makes fewer mistakes, and both teams enter this contest riding the confidence of convincing Week 1 victories. Neither side showed many weaknesses in its opener, making this one of the more interesting non-district matchups of the weekend.

Both programs accomplished exactly what they wanted in Week 1. LCA handled a larger-classification opponent by 21 points, while Pulaski County rolled to a 25-point victory over Henderson County. Now the competition level rises another notch as two undefeated teams meet in the Rebel Bowl.

Who wins, and what is your score prediction?

I'll take Pulaski by a couple of scores. I know the scoreboard was 41-16 but it was 41-3 in the 3rd quarter with the JV giving up the last couple TD. Pulaski's defense looked as impressive as the offense imo. LCA is a different animal than Henderson and I expect it to be close but a 5 pm kickoff with temps close to 90 I expect Pulaski size up front to wear down the LCA defensie unit. Conditioning will play a major factor in this and I expect a lot of cramps.

I do not think LCA can hang with Pulaski for four quarters. Close early, but Pulaski controls clock late to win.

I can see arguments both ways. A bigger team may be able to wear down a smaller opponent over four quarters, but those larger bodies also have to deal with the heat and chase speed for an entire game. On the other hand, a faster team may benefit from the conditions early, but can they hold up physically as the game progresses?

How much of a factor do you think the heat will be in this matchup, and which style of team does it favor?

Conditioning and Hydration Too late to start now. But do agree it will be a good one.

Pulaski is blessed to have one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in Ky imo. I think that will be a big factor and another reason I'll stay with my prediction of a PC win.
