I recently relocated to Paducah. I played football and ice hockey growing up on Long Island. Since coming to Kentucky, I have been amazed at the high level of sports, especially how much the communities back their teams. I would like to know what are the oldest high school football rivalries in the state? What are the most intense? What team is feared the most? Who has the most state championships?

Trinity has the most state championships. Trinity vs St. Xavier is a big rivalry. I once attended that game with 34k others.

I think Male vs. Manual is the oldest but not 100% sure on that.

Trinity plays a national schedule.

Hey fatsnbul!  Thanks for sharing. I here Paducah Tilghman vs Mayfield goes back like a 100 years?

See you are a Maple Leafs fan? I grew up watching the Islanders win their cups!

Welcome to BGP @EmptyTigersMedia!

Yes, love the Leafs despite 59 years of agony....

I can't imagine. Keep the faith though. I took like a hundred years but the Red Sox finally broke the curse of The Babe!

So what school is Trinity's biggest rival? Or longest rival?

That Old Rivalry. DuPont Manual vs Male High since 1893.

When you take into account geography, championship caliber programs, competitiveness, and add a dash of "dislike", it's hard to top the rivalry between Bowling Green and South Warren.

The two have combined for 11 state championships in the last 15 years. BG currently leads the series 8-7. It's still a relatively new rivalry, but I think it's the best one going right now.

Here's a pretty solid thread about the Manual vs. Male football rivalry...it's among the oldest in the country.

If you are a fan of small town, small school football, it is hard to beat the Bellevue-Dayton rivalry.  The towns border each other, all of the kids know each other, the game has been played 153 times since 1926.
