The Cardinals have the first pick of Round 3 with the #65 pick and select the 3rd QB taken so far Carson Beck from Miami.

The Bengals select CB Tacario Davis from Washington with the #72 pick of the draft.

The Steelers take Penn State QB Drew Allar with the #76 pick.

A good move by the Bengals with the trade they go for picks 110 and 199 to now having picks 128 and 140.

The first Kentucky player Jalen Farmer Guard gets drafted in the 4th round at #113 by the Colts.

I think in the future that the Chiefs drafting of QB Garrett Nussmeier out of LSU will be possibly like Brock Purdy. I guess time will tell.

Seth McGowan RB from Kentucky was taken by the Colts with the #237 pick in the draft.

I just saw that Frederick Douglass and Kentucky Alum Jager Burton was drafted in the 5th Round with the #153 pick by the Green Bay Packers. Congratulations to Jager and his family! Picture is from Jager’s draft party with Coach McPeek. 

In the Mr. Irrelevant pick of the 2026 NFL Draft this year #257 the Denver Broncos select Red Murdock LB out of Buffalo.

Also, congratulations to Frederick Douglass alum Dane Key who was just signed as undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos if he makes the team he will join his brother Devon Key a defensive back for the Broncos.

Congratulations to yet another Frederick Douglass alum Devin Neal who signed as a undrafted free agent by Jacksonville Jaguars.

The NFL Draft is basically a live reminder that football talent is not evenly distributed.
Look at this map.

Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Iowa.

Some states are not just “football states.” They are football factories.

And this year’s draft is still proving the point. The first round alone included players from Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Miami, Auburn, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and other programs sitting right in the heart of these talent pipelines.

Now, to be fair, college program does not always equal home state.

But the pattern is hard to ignore.

Warm weather. Year-round training. Friday night football culture. Elite high school programs. Better competition at younger ages. More exposure. More pressure. More reps.

By the time a lot of these kids get to college, they have already been playing serious football for a decade.
That does not guarantee anything.

But it does explain why the same regions keep showing up on draft night.

Some states produce football players.

Some states produce football ecosystems.

And the NFL is downstream from that.
