Curious on a few things with this opening.

Was Swiney just a 1 year plug after the coach resigned late?

Was that agreed upon by both parties and he wants to get back to just teaching?

Donnie Swiney was named interim head coach in mid-November 2025 after Matthew Turner resigned at the beginning of the month. I'm not sure whether or not Swiney is interested in permanently being head coach, but Taylor County currently has it listed.

It is definitely open and they are already reaching out to coaches to gauge interest.

That's a nice job.  Back to Back 5th Region Champions.  Final 4 this year.  Returns everyone.  

Swiney was a 1 year deal. Both parties agreed to that going in. I would not have been surprised to see Swiney decide to stay. A final 4 appearance changes attitudes about staying and going, especially when you have so much returning. 

I would think that this job will draw some pretty good interest, haven't heard any names yet, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they stay internal and hire Farrah McLean. She was Swiney's top assistant, instrumental in getting him to come to TC this past season and has deep roots and connections in TC. I know that there is a little drama with her because of Turner's resignation but as the old saying goes, "winning heals all things..." or something like that.

I’m still trying to make sense of Turner’s resignation, especially the timing. This has to be one of the best jobs in the state right now. You’ve got one of the top freshmen in the country on the roster, plus everyone else is coming back from a team that just made the Final Four. With that much talent and momentum, you’d think this job is going to attract some really high-level interest.

Is anyone heard anything on this one?

There is one guy who I know that has gotten a call of interest from the admin.

I would expect something to be announced very soon. Could be a familiar face returning to Taylor County.
