Highlands is the absolute perfect definition of the Cinderella story in 2025 (Hallmark has to be in the midst of putting together this screenplay as we speak).  It took Highlands 5 games in the regular season before they won their first game.  They go into the post season with a losing record (7-9-2), and now have put together the most DRAMATIC 8 game run in Kentucky soccer history!  

Sacred Heart, I mean what can you say about this team and program?  If Highlands "Cinderella" then Sacred is the "Goliath" in the story of David v Goliath.  23 wins so far on their resume, only 2 loses (only 1 from a Ky school...Boyle County).  They are looking for their 9th State Title.

PS. I am so happy I came out of retirement to follow these girls this post season.  It's been an absolute delight to see so many girls just gritting thru the gauntlet of post season games with ice in their veins!

2006:  Highlands beat Sacred Heart, 1-0

2008:  Sacred Heart beat Highlands, 2-0

2018:  Sacred Heart beat Highlands, 2-1

Highlands teammates almost hitting the Century mark on games played!

When I first thought of this feel good story I was so hoping the math would work out that these 2 would hit the 100 games played mark for their career but they will fall just short.

Seniors Kaylee Mills & Reese Wilkens, when they lace up on Saturday, will be playing in their 98th & 96th game respectively, throughout their 4 year career at Highlands.

Both of them played in every game their Fresh (25), Soph (23) & Junior (25) seasons.  Unfortunately, Kaylee missed 2 games this season and Reese has missed 4 games....

Even though, they will fall just short of the 100 game mark I thought it was a nice story to showcase these 2 for being the Iron Birds of this program over the last 4 years.  

Job well done ladies!!!  These 2 have been fantastic teammates (on & off the pitch) in this program for so long.

Highlands really playing well with possession just needs to execute a shot in attacking 3rd.

Great game by both teams, just too good of a backline defense for Sacred Heart to allow Highlands to get decent chances.

Highlands really played a high backline to play that offside trap which worked well most of the game but Sacred Heart was able to just stay onside enough twice to get a nice thru ball for a 1v1 with Class that they were able to finish.

Such a dominant season by Sacred Heart going 24-2-1, scoring 124 goals and giving up just 10 goals.
