I think an up and coming young man that would be great for this position is Jason Faulkner from Whitley. Great Guy!

 

Also, Coach P. from Lynn Camp would be a great hire!

No need to start on a tread on this position, we all know who the job is going to and that is Mike Jones, who is the current principal at Cawood.

Mercy, why not give Anthony Nolan a shot at it

If you are going to give anyone in the system already the job, just give it to Coach Edwards and Derrick Akal, look at the success they have had in turning Cumberland around. Also, as an assistant Akal has had a 13th Regional Championship and a 13th Region All "A" Championship.

First I will say the job Akal and Edwards have done is sensational, but they had a good year last year and will have a good year this year. That would be it. If Cumberland stayed open, they would struggle again next year no matter who coaches them. They have had help from different places and Nolan would be the obvious choice if it was a coach from one of the county schools.

I think that they would get an outsider, I still think those two that I stated before Faulkner and Pennington would be great, but I also think Coach Brent West would be an excellent choice, he is one great coach with alot of knowledge!

I am not so sure your conclusion on the 08-09 season would be correct if we were still open. The team that would be playing next year was almost undefeated in County Play when they were 8th graders losing only to Wallins. I believe they could compete with everyone on the schedule from this year next year.

 

Adding to this the 98-99 season of Middle School play was Jerry Edwards last year coaching at CMS and his team when undefeated and their senior year they made it to Rupp.

This should be one of the better jobs in the 13th. It doesn't matter who the head coach is if you bring Roscoe Denny and Willard farris in to be your assistants. Rodney Woods would do a great job.

Who will be the new coach at the new highschool next year? People say its Mike Jones, I know they have advertise for the other sports, but basketball is not one of them. What about Al Holland of Hazard and Perry Central. Great coach and has a better record than jones? You tell me

And Hazard wouldn't be as good without Whitaker!!! Transfers are a part of the game. Desmond and Garfield MOVED here from North Carolina. Don't even claim to have some inside information about recruiting and Cumberland basketball. That's nonsense..........

Most schools in the 13th are not strangers of having players that's not from that area. At least they were not taken from any schools in the 13th. I don't think there is any secret why Cumberland's coaching staff doesn't get the credit they deserve, and why Johnson and Wilson are always talked about like they are from another planet. I don't think harlan would have been as good in the 90's if Charles Thomas would have stayed in Cumberland. I could name a lot more if I wanted it to. I just like to see good basketball and I think that Cumberland plays hard. It's sad that people would like to take that away from that coaching staff. But, as I said it's no secret why.
