  • We shall see….my biggest hope with this new hire, after getting wins, is that we stop losing kids from the program. Friday night the Devils will face 3-4 former players that start for Apollo.

  • Red Devils by at least 3 TDs.

Red Devils by at least 3 TDs.

I don’t think the Eagles can bring the type of pressure that can rattle Ganaway Jr at QB. If he’s given just a little bit of time he will pick the defense apart. I do think Apollo will move the ball a little bit on offense. Just not enough to keep pace with the Devils.

Devils 56 Apollo 21 ( a score or 2 being on the JV)

I'm going with a different score Devils Fan. I really think they can score depending on how well Max Johnson plays, but if he doesn't do well they can always put JT Edge in. After his performance against Catholic I really don't see why he isn't their QB.

I'm going with 42-28. My son says Evan was still hurting after the game and I really think we need to work T Green in the game more.  If we lose Evan then it will be hard for us to move forward in the playoffs.

I think it will be a great game. I wish this game was at Rash, well I wish all the games were at Rash LOL!!!!

If Owensboro plays to its capabilities and what its shown, then it’s going to be a bad loss for Apollo.  If Hampton sits out then I’ll temper my expectations.  No Hampton I’ll say 28-7.  With Hampton and if we get Pullom this game, I think O can name it.  Owensboro’s defense has been spot on.  Roney at SS and now maybe with Pullom off the edge with Clark, Muster and mix in James on the D-line, LB’s with Conrad, Hampton and Ashley are terrific and secondary is very good.  As long as no hurricane like last year, it’s all O.

Devils 50-14

As good as Hampton is I don’t think he makes or breaks this Devils team. Insert #2 or #3 RB in for the Devils and I believe we have the same level of success on offense. Evan Hampton isn’t used by the Devils like most Mr Football candidates are used by their teams. He doesn’t play defense at all and he’s rarely targeted for passes. They just hand it off to him behind a decent(but progressing) Oline. His production outside of the OC game hasn’t been much to talk about.

Your last statement is the only thing that worries me and that’s the OL. I really think without Hampton we don’t beat Owensboro Catholic

You’re probably right or at least the game is a bit closer.

Everyone has Owensboro picked as the favorite, just like they had Owensboro Catholic picked to beat us earlier this season. But if you watched that game, you know John Edge had a great game plan, and Apollo only lost by a single touchdown. That showed this team is capable of going toe-to-toe with anyone if they clean up the mistakes.

If Apollo can eliminate penalties and keep feeding their playmakers — Williams, Tutt, Bratcher, Badger, and Milburn out of the backfield — they can put up points in a hurry. This offense has weapons, and they just need to get them the ball in space. The offensive line has already faced tougher defensive lines this year (like Murray High), so protecting Max Johnson shouldn’t be anything new.

One more thing: I’d love to see JT Edge get more offensive reps. When Johnson went down prior to the Owensboro Game game, JT stepped in and the offense didn’t miss a beat. If they find a way to get him more touches, it adds another wrinkle defenses have to account for.

Apollo might be the underdog on paper, but they’ve already shown they can hang with the best. If they play disciplined football and get the ball into the hands of their athletes, don’t be surprised if they make this a lot closer than people think.

@jester270 Do you think JT Edge should be their starting QB? I have watched him since he played with the Saints and the Falcons at the ODCYFL. He loves contact and will hit you.

As you know I'm an Owensboro dad, and I can honestly say I don't have us beating Apollo by 30 like some. If we do I will be shocked, but pleased. I just don't think it's going to be that easy.

Mine is a long the lines of 42-28.

I feel that they could implement a 2 QB system, similar to what Urban Meyer did with the 2006 Gators for reference (Chris Leak and Tim Tebow). Max Johnson has incredible arm strength and passing ability, while JT plays with grit and physicality. Plus, JT knows how to pick a part a defense. I don't have a son on the team (avid fan since the Dan Gooch era) but I have enjoyed watching these kids the past few years. I agree with your line however, but I could still see it being a closer ball game than others predicted.

This all depends on how well the Apollo defense can stop the run and get pressure to Ganaway Jr.!

I used my son's Hudl account and watched film. I watched the Apollo vs. Catholic game. We need to play well. If we come in this game and overlook Apollo we could lose. It's up to Demarcus and the staff to keep their focus.

I wouldn’t count Apollo out that quickly. They’ve already gone up against one of the toughest defensive lines they’ll see all year in Murray, a group with REAL size and strength. There is a reason why their big guys have gotten several D1 looks. While the run game struggled, Apollo’s offensive line held up very well in pass protection, giving Max Johnson time to make plays. If they can replicate that protection and clean up penalties, Apollo has the skill players to put points on the board and make this a much more competitive game than people think.

Will Barnes always comes up with great schemes and Drew Hall has helped put together so many great defenses over the years. What exactly is Demarcus in charge of?

Murray’s Dline couldn’t have been that good if Apollo scored 30 plus points. They didn’t even score that much against OC.

Even if Apollo can score. How do they intend to slow down the Red Devil offense when teams are averaging 32points a game on them? Even Muhlenberg scored 21 points against the Eagles. I’d like to think the Red Devil offense is way more explosive than the Mustangs with way more athletes. Coach Edge will probably try to just play keep away and eat the clock.
