Belfry puts together an impressive performance. Panthers botched a punt on their opening drive and it was all Belfry from there. Pirates hit big play after big play and had a demoralizing 17 play drive to break Pikeville's spirit. Belfry's defense has one of their best performances in a while. They record multiple sacks and force 3 Panther turnovers.

Big win for Belfry as now they enter District play and have a winnable "play up" game in the season finale. Pirates just need some RPI help now and need to stay healthy.

Belfry has not missed a beat. 

Wow, congratulations to Belfry. Sounds like a very impressive and dominating win.

Honestly nobody really expected them  to. 

They have a veteran team with several 3 and 4 year starters playing and they returned a ridiculous 18 out of 22 starters from last season.  The coaching staff stayed intact, including several coaches who have been on staff for 20 plus years and a couple of them over 30 years.  And almost the whole staff played for Coach Haywood in this same system.  They have a program who enjoys tremendous administrative and community support.  
 

And maybe most importantly of all, there  is some extra motivation in that locker room.  

This was a great win for Belfry.  It’s always good to beat Pikeville but especially in this fashion.  Belfry isn’t 6 touchdowns better than Pikeville. The Pirates got some breaks, some of which they created and some that Pikeville helped them with.  But there was Zero doubt who was the better team on the field at Philip Haywood Stadium last night.  
 

Glad to see the defense put in the really strong effort. They were menacing last night.  We are seeing some guys really mature into their roles and to me that bodes well. Defense wins championships so let’s hope this improvement continues.  
 

The remainder of the schedule is going to be less challenging than the first half, unfortunately.   

I want to give a big kudos to Coach Macnamee for a solid gesture last night.  It was a very classy move maybe not everyone caught. 
 

The panthers lined up for their fist play from scrimmage in a double tight wishbone formation.  An obvious tip of the cap to Coach Philip Haywood from the Panthers.  
 

Thank you Coach.  That was special and gave me a lump in my throat.  Well done!!

Flashbacks of the drive to Union Co last November.

A few added thoughts before we put this one in the past.

- Thought Belfry showed some excellent Offensive and Defensive Coordination from their staff. Defensively Belfry clearly scouted Pikeville well and saw something they could expose. I am not used to Belfry being an aggressive defense, but they clearly identified taking an aggressive approach with stunts and blitzes would be beneficial and they did that to perfection. Reynolds of Pikeville was running for his life all night.

On offense I thought Belfry showed an equal level of aggressiveness. They used the option more in the first couple drives than they had all season, they dialed up a beautiful play action pass on 1st Down at the right time, and they leaned into JB Woolum. At the same time, when it was a critical moment of the game the staff also showed poise to go to classic Haywood "Death By a Thousand Cuts" style and grind the Panthers into hamburger meat with a 17 play drive that broke their spirit and fatigued a Pikeville team that is not particularly deep.

- I mentioned it in the Update thread but will say it here, every 1A team in the State will be bending over backwards to get their hands on this film. Belfry just wrote the textbook on how to attack Pikeville. 

- With that said, Coach Mac is one of the best in the State for a reason. I expect Pikeville to evolve from this game. Belfry essentially said, beat us if you can running, beat us if you can short, you ain't beating us deep.

- Belfry's Special Teams were bad, bad. Got to clean that up! Missed FG, Missed XP, two huge returns, and they gave up an onside recovery when everyone East of I-75 knew it was coming.
