West Carter Comets (2-2) | East Carter Raiders (3-1)

? ’With The Setting Sun On The Horizon, The Fire Still Burns In The Battle For The Barrel’

Shared borders, blood ties, and a pinch of contempt can elevate a rivalry to something greater. All of that and more has marbled the history of East vs. West.

With consolidation certain, there aren't many opportunities left to enjoy the insular nature of this hot blooded Civil War, one that's fallen in East's favor the last three years and 33-21 all-time.

Landon Yoak will deliver the body blows for a prosperous Raiders offense that has yet to be reined in. West will challenge him this week with a sizeable defensive front that's been the strength of the team so far.

East and West aren't competing for statewide recognition this weekend. It's about more than that. This is a matter of pride and bragging rights. Forget state, regional, and district titles. This is for the championship of Carter County, the championship of one another.

The Raiders should roll!

This week, we host two of the finest young coaches in the state, Daniel Barker & Tim Champlin, as they prepare their teams for the Battle For the Barrel, East v. West Carter!

I'd like to see a competitive game, but I'm afraid you're probably right. If you want to use Russell to size up West, the Comets were susceptible to the pass and had nothing to offer offensively against Russell when those two met the week before last.

I'll have to make a point to catch that one.

It's hard to believe that Barker has been running the show in Olive Hill for eight years already and Champlin is working on - vigorously rubbing eyes - 11 YEARS?!?!? in Grayson. Father time needs to chill out.

Yoak scores again this time on a 51-yard run and the Raiders now led the Comets 14-0.

The Raiders get another touchdown and led the Comets 21-0 with still 3 minutes left in the first quarter. This could be heading to a running clock.
