Top 5 Scoring Defenses

Featured Replies

These are the top 5 scoring defenses across the state so far. If anybody knows anything about these teams/ the strength of each teams defense please share.

So far I’m super impressed with Atherton, CAL, and Glasgow as they have played the tougher opponents of the 5 teams listed.

1. Taylor County (2.0 ppg)

2. Atherton (2.3 ppg)

3. Glasgow (3.6 ppg)

4. Nicholas County (4.3 ppg)

5. CAL (4.7 ppg)

Atherton and CAL get my attention there.

Atherton has played 3 teams that they shouldn’t give up many points to if they plan on being tough in November.

Glasgow has very fast cornerbacks that are hard to throw against and if they do intercept it they might take to the house. They have also been very good against the run even against larger teams. Barren Co was massive and everyone assumed they would push the Scotties around and instead the Scotties pushed them around giving up than 50 yards rushing.

I'd reserve judgement on Atherton; their schedule to date is terrible: #32/38 in 5A SoS by hsratings.com.

Opponents are a combined 1-8. Class rankings, record, and 5A #11 Atherton's winning scores.

Mercer Co., 3A #18/39 (0-3), W 28-7

Cent. Hardin, 6A #28/38 (0-3) W 44-0

Southern, 6A #30/32 (1-2) W 48-0

Southern's lone win was 40-6 over Doss, #38, the bottom ranked team in 5A.

I agree with this. Glasgow gave up 14 rushing yards against Barren County on the ground.

CAL is legit. They have studs across the defense. Hard to go against them right now.

Taylor County hasn't played very impressive teams so far, I think we'll know more when they play Etown, John Hardin, and even Russell County seems to be a decent opponent coming up. Taylor seems like the best team on their schedule this year so we may not completely know until the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs.

Atherton I know has their best team probably ever. I just don't know what their ceiling is.. same point, bad opponents. We'll know after they play their second half of the season. They could definitely entertain playing in late November.

Glasgow is Intriguing. They have a small line, but have dominated the LOS thus far. I know Barren and Monroe aren't world beaters, but still quality opponents. Glasgow's schedule seems to be clear ahead, barring a slip up with Hart or Franklin Simpson at the end of the year. I don't think they can touch CAL or Lex Cath from what I've seen, but I could see them make a run to Region and then who knows what can happen.

Nicholas County. I love Simon Clouse. I have known him since his days in Clarksville TN and have friend who knew him when he was at Hart and Allen County. And another friend who knew him all the way back when he was playing at Harrison. They've played bad teams... but I think they are still pretty good.

CAL... enough said... Juggernauts... gets their players rings sized now. Only ones who seem to hold a candle in that class may be Lex Cath.

Atherton has 3 D1 guys on defense and not sure many teams have that many high level guys. Good measuring stick against Manual this Friday.
