NCAA moving to a single portal window

Featured Replies

This is still going to be a mess, there will be players on playoff teams entering the portal while their team is still in the playoffs. I can see some playoff teams getting held hostage by players wanting a better deal during the playoffs and threatening to leave the team.

The portal should be open in time for players to transfer before spring semesters start, but with the playoffs going far past the start of the second semester this is going to be a mess.

I'm all for a single portal, but it needs to move until after the season is complete.  Otherwise you might as well just open it up in October and make it like a trade deadline.

If you wait until then, nearly every school has already started their spring semester. It would be tough to get players recruited, moved and enrolled a few weeks into the semester.

I don't have an answer either, I'm thinking the new portal is the best compromise.

True.  I guess the schools do still have to feign that academics has anything to do with any of this.

Make a June portal and be done with it...

100%.  After the spring games and the spring semester.

That would never work for the players.  That gives them less than 2 months to get their name in the portal, find a new team and work out their NIL deals before summer camp and the season starts.  And the NIL money is what this is all about.

With Money involved I guarantee they find a way to make it work.  However, it makes it tougher which might help with the debacle of a system we currently have.

IMO this would make coaches more prone to developing their roster instead of bringing in 40 new guys every year.

I'm not even paying attention to these things anymore because eventually someone will sue and they will find a judge to put in an injunction or suspend it.  It seems like any NCAA rule at this point gets shut down.  We're on the verge of someone arguing that limiting eligibility is a "restraint of trade" and opening Pandora's box to people playing for a school for an unlimited amount of years.  There's already a lawsuit to get it to 5 years because the argument that "4 in 5" is arbitrary.  If that's true, then why is 5 any less arbitrary than 6 or more?  The same can be said of academic requirements to play and other things that go with the territory.
