Article says amendment will be voted on at 9/17 meeting.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUG. 1, 2025

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its first regularly scheduled meeting of the 2025-26 academic year on Thursday and Friday in Louisville, approving a review of proposals to be considered at the 2025 Annual Meeting and preparing for discussions that will continue to serve and meet the member schools’ needs.

A two-day series of meetings began with an orientation for new and returning Board members and then launched into the full Board work session on Thursday afternoon, followed by conducting the full Board Meeting on Friday. The Board and staff welcomed new Board members, Jeremy Roach of Princeton and Terry Yeast of Winchester.

“The first meeting each year offers a great opportunity for our new board members to become familiar with the process of these meetings and with our staff members,” said Commissioner Julian Tackett. “The first meeting is always one of our longer ones as we try to set the tone for the coming year, get ready for what will be presented to our member schools in the annual meeting, as well as what our focus is for the meetings for the rest of the year.”

This past school year, the triennial survey was sent to the schools, looking at 10 topics. Schools were polled about administrative questions, basketball shot clocks, as well as membership interest in STUNT, pickleball and girls’ flag football in the coming year. All three did receive a lot of interest as potential new championships in the future, but not for the 2025-26 school year. All three will be topics of a breakout session at the annual meeting.

The also are considering for the 11th region in basketball to have a super-regional like the 15th region has had for the past several years. Actually last year Lawrence Co. lost its opening district game but because of the super-regional they went on to win the 15th. I am sure the schools in the 42nd would be for the super-regional.

What is the super-regional format?

I don’t know what the plan is for the 11th but the 6th region baseball had a new format this year.

Each regular season district winner hosted a pod of four teams consisting of a 2,3,4 of different districts. The 4 pod winners went on to Patterson Stadium to play out the semis and finals.

Very interesting concept but it takes away a District Tournament title from teams.

Every team in the region gets a chance to play a play-in game to make it into the tournament. Think of it like a loser's bracket. So, I believe 8 teams lost in the first round of the 4 district tournaments and they all had to draw to play each other, so the 4 winners of those games get to play one of the district runner ups at the runner up's home gym to advance to play one of the district champions in the quarter finals of the regional tournament. It might be a little different in the 11th due to the 41st, 42nd, and 43rd all having 5 teams.
