BREAKING: Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended as head coach at Miami Northwestern after using over $200,000 of his own money to fund team expenses.

The former Pro Bowl quarterback is under scrutiny after spending his own money on team expenses and asking fans for help covering the costs that the school wasn't providing. His expenses included $700 per week for Uber rides, $1,300 weekly for recovery services, $2,200 for pregame meals, $14,000 for training camp, and $9,500 for custom "pride sets" to outfit the players.

In a Facebook post, Bridgewater stressed he wasn't begging, just trying to keep a winning program afloat without draining his personal bank account. He said he'd continue to coach "one way or another," even if that means doing it from the bleachers.

But that post triggered concerns across Florida, especially after a similar situation last year led to severe punishment. The FHSAA previously banned The First Academy from the postseason for two years and fined them $36,000 for giving players free Uber rides and meals.

I guess I would have to ask, who is in charge at Miami Northwestern and how could they have allowed this without first being sure it was not a violation, geez.

It's nice of Bridgewater to use his own money, but if it was strictly his, how long could he afford to do so? What are recovery services? Is the training camp necessary, especially at that price?

Teddy Bridgewater just got suspended as the Head Coach of Miami Northwestern High School because he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players out of his own pockets last season.

He got suspended for taking care of his players when they were in need, teaching them how to take care of their bodies and giving them the necessities to help them chase their dreams for a brighter future.

Not cheating. Not stealing. Just caring.

He gave them the tools to chase a better future and is getting punished for it.

Suspending Teddy Bridgewater isn’t justice.

It’s punishing love, leadership, and sacrifice.

I'm with RGIII on this one.  As Public Education continues to get gutted, how long can the school systems be expected to cover all these extras that come with athletics?  If a coach has the means to get the players the care and legitimate things they need to be successful, let them do so.

On the surface, what TB was doing was noble. I don't think anyone disputes that. But these are blatant violations. I would assume there are avenues to make things like this permissible (i.e. booster club). You can't set policy based on what feels right or wrong.

How dare you do something to help kids, Teddy.

That is exactly how I feel.  Noble/awesome by Teddy, but clearly not allowed and if you do allow it, it will quickly include paying players too.
