So the NHL decides to have players play for their countries (USA, Canada, Sweden and Finland) in a tournament that last 2 weeks for the All Star Game.  If you are another nationality you get the 2 weeks off.  Games are in Montreal and Boston.  

 

USA vs Canada last night in Montreal.  Fans boo the USA national anthem presumably over tariffs which starts a chain reaction of 3 fights on the ice in the first 9 seconds of the game.  

Nobody can complain that the games mean nothing I guess as fights included same of the games best players, but then again if nobody knows what you are doing NHL, does it really matter?

 

Anyway the standings are 

USA 2-0

Canada 1-1

Finland 1-1

Sweden 0-2.

 

USA has Sweden left to play.

Canada plays Finland with the winner facing the USA in the championship.

 

 

Tied 2-2 in the 2nd. Both rendetions of the respective anthems weee very well done.

I have had it on all night.  First time, long time for me.

Bad outcome but great game!

And this was basically a game that meant........nothing?  Really breathed some life into the national hockey scene.  

Teams start back up play in the NHL on Saturday.  

And the "Really great Irony" award goes to the NHL schedule.  On Saturday Winnipeg visits St. Louis so there you have the Hellebuyck (Winnipeg goalie) vs Binnington (St. Louis goalie) potential matchup.

That was so much fun. I've tried but can't get into the NHL, but I'll be all U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A next winter during the Olympics!!!

I just heard over 9 million viewers and the most watched hockey game in decades.

The more hockey I see, the more I like it.  Games are a little long for my taste.
