Coach of the Year

Pitino was the man and still is in my opinion. I personally think he’s of the select very few who’s truly greatest coach of all time for college basketball.

He truly is up there in regards to best coaches of all time. Wherever he goes he gets teams to win at a high level in the regular season. Yet hasn’t always translated to great post season success.  It’s honestly crazy that he only has two titles with how great of a coach he is.  I was just looking at his tournament success since he left UK. This is his 21st season of college basketball since he left UK, and I do think they make a run this year. However, out of the last 20 years of him coaching college basketball his teams have either missed the tournament or been knocked out during the first weekend 13 out of those 20 years. I honestly would have never realized that until looking it up.  It really surprised me that out of his 16 years as UL coach, he either missed the tournament or knocked out by the first weekend 9 of those 16 years.

That is a crazy stat with Louisville, the other years he was at Iona and now St. John’s. It’s been a while but how bad off was UL before Pitino got there? He took them to the final four in 2005. Kings of quick turn arounds

Denny Crum coached many good seasons In Louisville, a few very good with a few struggles between. I would say from probably about 1997 and on was when the struggles began to be more noticeably consistent. I know that Louisville had at least a couple seasons at or below.500 between 1997 and when Pitino got the job.

Easily Rick Pitino coach of the year!!

He definitely probably is the front runner.  He has done an amazing job.

No doubt. If you want a coach that can turn any program around he is the man. It just was very surprising to see that he has only made it past the first weekend of the tournament 7 times in his last 20 years as a college coach. I truly never would have thought that.

How many years was he in Greece and he won a title with them. “What could’ve been!!!” Had he not been tempted by the Celtics.
