Rick Honaker was announced as the new Head Coach today at Gallatin County. I believe this is a great hire for Gallatin, and that they couldn’t have found a better coach for this job. Congrats to coach Honaker.

Honaker graduated from Campbell County back in 1999. I know he coached under Nick Rice at Newport and then went to Bishop Brossart when Lee Teegarden took over their football program prior to Coach Wiggins' tenure. I'm not sure if he stayed on with Coach Wiggins at Brossart or where he's been coaching since Teegarden left Brossart.

Honaker was part of the staff at Ryle when they made their first State Championship appearance in 2006 (Lee Teegarden also was on that staff). I believe Honaker briefly left for a college position but returned to Ryle and was the defensive coordinator at some point with Mike Engler. I’m not sure if he had any other positions between the college job and returning to Ryle. For the past 5-6 years I believe, Honaker has been coaching in Georgia. He will bring in a bunch of enthusiasm and will focus on building a strong football program while also building strong young men. Great hire by GC in my opinion. Good luck Coach.

He did coach one season with Coach Wiggins at Brossart. Great hire for Gallatin!
