The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar  Thompson to their roster for 2025, according to his agent Sports Trust Advisors.

Everything you say about being just good enough to sneak into the playoffs but being one and done is true.  But the reason isn’t so much that Tomlin has gotten stale as much as it is mediocre quarterback play.  Drafting somewhere around 20 every season gets you where they are.  I give them credit for trying something different this time around and it looked promising for a while.  But the free fall over the course of the last month may very well have Steelers management looking for new blood.  
 

Not a popular opinion, I know.   And maybe making the playoffs year in and year out would satisfy most fan bases, but up in Steel City they expect more.   

Imagine where they might be if they had drafted Lamar or Jalen Hurt, either of which they could have.  It will be interesting to see what they do this off season.  

I really don’t think Tomlin needs to go elsewhere. It’s been more about quarterbacks than anything since Roethlisberger retired or even began declining. The year that Pickett was drafted wasn’t a strong quarterback class at all overall and he likely was the best quarterback to pick based on all drafted in 2022 based on what was shown then. Desmond Ridder was the next quarterback drafted that year in the third round and Brock Purdy was the last draft pick of the draft, who has obviously showed way more than any other quarterbacks being drafted in 2022. Pittsburgh had to get a quarterback that year regardless of who it was. With saying that, they obviously need another one now. Maybe some changes could be made with position coaches but I don’t believe the issues now are on Tomlin.
