Troy Smith Pushing the Browns

Featured Replies

I don't care what the scouts say Troy Smith will be a good quarterback in this league and the Browns are my favorite team so obviously I want us to have Troy Smith, if he's available in the 2nd Round.

I agree. If his line wasn't dominated by Florida so bad he would still be considered a mid to late first rounder. That's what every one has based his talent on is his last game. He almost no time to throw the ball, find his recievers, or scramble. With that being said, I don't think he would be a bad pick in the 2nd or 3rd round, but not the first. None of the late first round picks need a QB really. As a fan, I hope he doesn't go to the grave yard for QB's in Cleveland.

I agree with these observations FB, It is hard to throw the football when the defense is in the backfield quicker than you are  or it is especially hard to throw when you are on laying on your backside.:D

It would be like Couch all over again. They have a couple of good QB's better get the O-line in order first.

:thumb: Exactly. It has Tim Couch written all over it and both parties would suffer as they did during that period.

How could it be Couch all over again? Couch was the #1 overall pick, you guys re projecting Smith to go in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Same size as Drew Brees, better arm and better mobility. Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, the list goes on of successful "short" QB's.

As a Browns fan I must say that they dont need him in the first round. The Browns needs are on the D and O lines. If he is there in the later rounds then I could see it but anything early I say a big " NO! ".

First ROUND? Are you kidding me? Troy got completely exploited by the Gators...and in the NFL, they are all like that.

Troy Smith's line got exploited, as I stated before.

^ He is not anywhere near the caliber of a first round QB, if the Browns take him...it will be another wasted pick in their futile attempts at becoming a respectable franchise again.

Jason White, Eric Crouch, Josh Heupel...learn these names Troy, they are your contemporaries.

He will get exposed at the combine as a guy that is too short, not very fast, and lacking a great arm. Those guys aren't exactly leaping off of teams' draft boards.

If he goes on the first day of the draft I'll sport a Troy Smith avatar for a week.

I was referring to the fact that the Browns have a poor o-line and it would be tough for Smith to have success for the long term just as it was for Couch.

Tim Couch was a much better QB than what his reputation shows and I think that if Smith plays in Cleveland he will experience the same problems. Couch had some success but was absolutely beat to death on every other play thus resulting in injuries and a short stay in the league.

I am a Smith fan and would like to see him go into the league with a decent team.

Excellent post, and dead on accurate.

If he is there in the 3rd round, take him. If not, don't waste your time. I think Leak is a better Pro prospect than him anyways.

At what position?

If Chris Leak were taller he would be the #1 QB taken, IMO...he is a good decision maker and throws a BEAUTIFUL ball, perfect form....he'll get a shot, but not early...this is a rather weak QB draft...further illustrating how amazing it is that Brian is coming back.
