Open Job: Thomas Nelson

Featured Replies

Joseph Peake is out at Thomas Nelson after 6 seasons as head coach of the Generals. Thomas Nelson football had a 12-58 record during Peake's tenure, with trips to the first round of the 3A playoffs in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The roster dipped to only 31 players in the 2024 season, including 4 freshmen. The team graduates 1/3 of its roster in May.

Tough sledding at Thomas Nelson. The 13 year old football program has never had a playoff win, and is yet to have a winning season. Their best season on record was their 5-5 season in 2014 under head coach Kyle Boblitt.

Will anyone on staff take over?

From way back in the record, does anyone remember the first coach at Thomas Nelson?

Current Football Chief of Staff at the University of Louisville, Greg Brohm!

Extremely tough gig. Extremely tough. Joe is a dang fine fella, and their lack of wins on the field is one of these cases where it is in no way-shape or form indicative of the coach he is. I'm not sure that in the 13 years of the school that they've been truly competitive in any sport..girls soccer was for a bit, but it's an across the board thing there.

I remember last year there was some chatter about reuniting Thomas Nelson and Nelson County. However, there was a huge uproar at Thomas Nelson not wanting it to happen. Was there ever a resolution to that issue?

Not that I've heard? But it absolutely needs to happen. The worst thing ever was the split of Nelson County High School (being Captain Obvious there I know ?).

Never understood why they split Nelson County in the first place.

It made zero sense & it still doesn't. For the Boston community area they draw from, it's closer, but for where they draw from the most in the areas of New Haven, Culvertown, etc? It's a further drive for them to Thomas Nelson than it was/is to Nelson County High.

Didn't it have something to do with a potential expansion of Fort Knox and the anticipated growth in Hardin and neighboring counties? Build a second school to get ahead of the growth. Then after the Second Iraq War was drawn down and the expansion never took place, Nelson County was left with two Class 3A-sized schools.

I had heard some of that, but then also the projected growth along the road the school is on (Shepherdsville Road/Hwy 245 that connects Bardstown & I-65) which I'm sure had to do with the then expected growth of Fort Knox.

Some of the families that were long time "Nelson County" will tell you that the split is one of the factors for Bethlehem's growth...as a school & their overall athletic program.
