I dislike Tubby Smith because he has a hard time putting together any team chemistry, doesn't recruit that well and the level of UK has fallen over the years he's been here. I'm not asking that he must win a national championship every year but a final 4 would be nice every once in a while. And to the question, NO I don't root for UK to lose, but when they do I think that maybe they'll soon realize he's not the guy fo rthe job!

I have to admit that it's getting harder to defend him, especially the last couple years. My biggest knock on him was he never recruited Lofton. I think he's a great coach on the defensive side. He seems to be a very loyal man to his players and his staff, but I think he should clean his staff out, higher an assistant head coach that likes the up tempo game more on the offensive side and give him control of that. Hire a recruiting coordinator and give him complete control of that. I think he does a good job as a coach and I think his assistants are horrible.

Bradley was signed, Rondo was signed. It was Loften or Morris. Look at the team this year. Who would you rather have? I mean of course I'd rather have had Loften than Bradley, but that's besides the point.

 

They stand around on offense and we don't get the recruits we should. Tubby is the head coach. He's in charge of assistants, recruiting, strength coaches, etc. etc. He's liable. I also defended him, but over the last 3 years it's become near impossible.

I agree 100%. Hindsight is 20/20 on this dead horse; but at the time, Tubby made the correct decision. For all of Tubby's recruiting woes, that season was not the issue. Tubby can say he would like to have him, and he would, but that has to be a little disheartening (sp) to the other kids he recruited in that class to say "I wish we had Lofton"... that would mean one of those would have to go. Again, it is easy to say, "well, Craword left" "Rondo is gone" "Morris is lazy" and "Bradley is not that good", but at the time Tubby looked like a genius... something he does not get called often.

This is what frustrates me.. let us say UK would have been able to win against Michigan State and advance to the "Final Four"... Tubby would be looked at as a better coach today and a lot of this talk would have subsided. I would still view him as the same... then again, that is the nature of the game.

I agree, but they still stood around a lot. It's Tubby ball, similiar to Izzo ball and I HATE it. The recruiting woes have also been there the entire time. It's been too inconsistent. The good years have been able to carry him, but now there are 2 bad classes and 2 good classes. KY isn't even in the top 25. Ky has lost to Vandy 3 times in a row, twice at Rupp. Tubby hasn't been to a final four with anyone he's recruited. Tubby played Saul Smith WAAAAYYYY too much.

Put on almost any game and you will see the same play ran for almost every college program. High pick by post and roll to the basket off the guard.

They run one set where the PG dribbles. 2 stand low on the wing (closer to the baseline, and the other 2 stand higher on the opposite wing(closer to the top of the key). One person jogs off of a double screen. Then they pass it back to the PG and start over. One person moving is not a good offense on any level. That isn't a pick and roll. Rarely does UK run a true pick and roll. They don't run off of screens good enough to.

If you want to hold the position that they don't use their picks well, I will not argue or disagree with that.

 

Morris alone seems to get an offensive foul a game on a poor pick.

Never, I cringe everytime they lose and it turns my stomach and with every lose I just think that maybe the ywill soon realize he isn't the right guy! I never want them to lose.
