Not to mention Ironton at Ironton. I don't believe anybody in the 16th has won over there in a long while. Spring Valley also beat Paintsville which just beat Elliott. Ashland beat Spring Valley. With that logic Ashland should win on tuesday? ha! ha! Just kidding.

I am not bashing Ashland but replying (opinion) to Down Hard's opinion that Ashland was playing better than anyone in the region right now and Jay's reply, "who have they beaten?".

 

Ashland is playing better now and definitely should be commended "year after year" of their competitive and challenging schedules which proves beneficial in EVERY march, but better than everyone else right now? Elliott may have that title IMO and Russell is not that far behind if not even and lastly Boyd vs. Rose Hill will be an epic match for 16th region supremity.

 

I will try to be at the Elliott-Ashland game Tuesday and will try to take it all in.

I do not worship Russell. they have proven to be very vulnerable.

I think Ashland needs a signature win to solidify their status as region favorites.

I tend to agree but what would qualify as a signature win? I mean for that matter does Russell have one? Not trying to be arguementitive because you know I have always said it is Russells to lose.

 

FWIW, I think Ashland is playing very well right now. Their next two games, GRC and Elliott on the road will tell us a lot. If they win those then I will side with DH.

RickyP, I think a signature win(s) for Russell could be: "Elliott, Ashland, Greenup and Rowan" Top 4 of 5 teams in the 16th (Have not played RH). Russell has lost to Boyd by 2 and humiliated by ST.X so other than that, they are probably as you said are the signature wins spoken of.

 

I think this would be a great thread: "THIS SEASONS SIGNATURE WINS." I will start it later tonight when I return from a game (whichever has the best parking).

DownHard, after returning from the Ashland-GRC tonight, I MUST agree with you on how well the cats are playing press defense at this part of the season. I think Ashland will shut down Elliott's prolific offense if they show up with the same intensity as I saw tonight.

Russell played man to man the whole second half against Elliott and I dont remeber them having trouble scoring and I dont remember Russell being in foul trouble. Ferguson sat most of the first half with 2 fouls. Evan Faulkner was still recovering from an injury at that point in the season as well. But as far as the rankings go, at this point I agree that Russell is the #1 team in the region.

 

 

Russell is always in foul trouble, and that night was no different. They seem to start the game in foul trouble.
