The Beechwood Tigers travel south to the Walton-Verona Sports Complex to take on the home standing Bearcats, game time 7:30 pm. Beechwood posted a lopsided win last week in their district opening contest while Walton-Verona lost their district opener. Beechwood comes into this game at 5-1 versus Walton-Verona's 1-4 record. When Beechwood moved up to 2A a few years ago, Walton-Verona was one of the teams the Tigers were looking forward to seeing more of as a tough opponent. Unfortunately tough times have fallen on the Bearcats program and they are in a rebuild under first year head coach Gary Pence.

Beechwood features a powerful senior led offensive attack featuring QB Clay Hayden, RB Chase Flaherty, WR James Cusick and perhaps seeing more action in this game WR Luke Erdman (who is coming back from an injury). Walton-Verona's top offensive performer has been Junior WR Michael Oldfield. The Bearcats are the only district opponent in this current alignment who has scored on Beechwood over the past two years, getting a field goal in last year's game.

What are you looking for in this game?

Had hoped that Tigers would get tested by a much needed strong rushing attack before playoffs.  This will not be the week.  Running clock before half will potentially hide the vulnerability/improvements of the D.

Bracken County is #5 in 2A in rushing. Next best in the district is Owen County at #24.

Side note: Beechwood is #23 in rushing in 2A.

Yep.  Just setting the stage for Tigers’ trip to Bracken Co.  The Polar Bears will be a much needed ground & pound tune up for the playoffs.  But, realistically BC’s ground game is not in the same league as Lexington Christian’s.

I watched the LCA vs Lex Cath game I don’t see LCA stopping Beechwood’s offense.

So hope you are right.  If that game happens it could be a track meet. Aerial attack versus pound/ground assault.  That’s why I’m hoping the Tigers shore up that defense before we reach post-season.

So it would be a shootout then if they played.

I think the type of offense LCA has is important. A balanced offense with a read option good running QB is my biggest concern. I am not sure LCA has enough passing game. Their stats look run dominant and that makes them easier to defend.

You must be terrified of OCath then.
