Big win by the Lions.

Elliot, Russell, and perhaps Ashland seem to be separating themselves a bit

at this point. Did Greenup try to slow this game down at all? That was their

MO at the beginning of the season. This seems to indicate that they either

tried to run with Elliot, or they were completely forced out of doing so. Of

course when your head coach gets suspended, there is liable to be change.

 

Even with this loss, I still expect Greenup to be a tough game for Russell next

Friday, as rivalry games usually are.

Bench was the key for the Lions. Maynard, Greene, T. Knipp, and Keith Centers came in and gave huge minutes. Very balanced scoring out of the Lions. Chris Knipp scores a career high 18pts and played his best game of the year on both ends. Evan FAulkner and Jon Ferguson come in with 15 apiece. Tyler Maynard comes off the bench to score 14 pts on 4 3 pointers. Ethan Faulkner scored 13.

Great win for Elliot Co. I hope to get to Richmond to watch them win the All A.

Only sore spot in tonights game was late in the 3rd quarter, Jon Ferguson goes down with an ankle injury and did not return.

Ferguson's condition. Prayers go out for the kid. Elliot is really playing well right now. I agree with an earlier poster in that they and Ashland may be putting themselves in a 16th region favorites role along with Russell. Let concentrate on our 16th representative for the "A" state right now though, GO LIONS!!!

:sssh: :sssh: Just a thought for all the Musketeer fans: Suddenly a trip to the Sweet 16 and taking the team to eat at a Hooters Restaraunt doesn't seem so bad after all. (this was in a letter to the editor of the Daily Independent from a GCHS fan a while back)

I'm sure this score really surprises the 16th as Greenup had been playing some good ball since the break. GC saw that you have to be aware of others than the big 3 at Elliott.C.Knipp had a great game on both ends, Maynard 4-5 from 3 land, T Knipp & Greene in the scoring column early.

Elliott showed tonight that they have 9 players that can contribute. I thought that this was Greene's best game since before Christmas.

Middleton was out for Greenup.

Wolfenbarker in foul trouble and received an inappropriate elbow to the head and no foul.

Greenup's TEAM defense wasn't very good. Tough to beat a team like Elliott Co. without good TEAM defense.

The game was within striking distance for Greenup from 16-6 points. In the 3rd quarter the game was about a 10 point difference. Thats when Wolfenbarker received the elbow and had to sit out for a bit. Greenup was out of tune.

 

I hope I don't get fined for saying this like NBA coaches and players, but the officiating wasn't nearly fair. I am one who can see both ways, but this game definately gave a home-court advantage. I know there have been many games this year I have seen officiating liberally call for one team. Why is this a common thing in Kentucky High School basketball? Officials should allow the kids to play but allow the calls be even. Let the same fouls be fouls on both ends. I have witnessed games where one team receives a foul in my opinion "touch foul" and the other team receives a foul in my opinion a "mugging". Whether a team is good or bad, officiating can determine a game. It may not be in every case, the results may be different. A team may only get beat 10 points instead of 40 points if the officiating was fair or a team could get beat 40 points instead of 10 points if the officating was fair. I have seen this very prevalent in the 16 Region myself. In the 16th region, the home team for the most part receives all the calls. There a lot of times the fouls that are not called are the ones that the cost the game.
