Beechwood 41 Dixie Heights 20

Recommended Posts

Dixie needs to really consider a new staff.  I hear they have some good freshmen and I know it doesn't always translate to high school, but there is also some talent at Turkey Foot.  Give those guys a reason to stay before they bail to another school.

Their decision and play call on 4th and 3 right before the half was horrible and laughable. Beechwood somehow didn’t capitalize on amazing field position with 30 seconds to go in the half.

Every single week it's boneheaded decisions.  Week 1 it was 4th and 3 again, down 1 score inside your own 30 and you go under center, bring everyone in tight amd run a QB sneak.  No gain.  SK scores 2 plays later.  I mean, the only time they ever under center is to sneak it....way to keep them guessing Coach.

That team tonight is the Beechwood team I was hoping to see this season. Impressive performance by the Tigers. As Guru said, Beechwood controlled this game from start to finish. I believe Dixie had 2, maybe 3, first downs in the first half. Beechwood was up 20-0 at halftime and it should have been more.

I asked in the update thread if Beechwood could control the Dixie running game - the answer is an emphatic yes. The Tigers controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Chase Flaherty was a beast running the ball tonight. I don't know if he hit 200 yards rushing but I would guess over 150 for sure. The line did a nice job and then Flaherty made cuts and hard runs to add on more yards. That run game set the stage for Hayden, Erdman and Cusick to show off the passing game.

Very strong win for the Tigers.

They were fun to watch tonight! Clay has a rocket of an arm!

Beechwood looks very good.  I wouldn't call beating a bad team a strong win.  They should have scored 70 easy.  The Tigers have some things to clean up, but are headed in the right direction under Volker. If they keep improving, they'll be hard to stop in the post season.

Should have been 4 TDs for Erdman, refs called this out of bounds. Perfect throw by Clay!

In high school football, does the receiver need two feet or just one foot inbounds?
Great ball and nice athletic catch either way…

Great throw. Great catch. Only need one foot inbounds in high school. Back judge missed that one.

I have to sing the praises of a too often unsung star player for Beechwood. WR James Cusick is a great player. I would argue he has the best hands in the Tigers highly talented receiving corps. Runs great routes. When the Tigers need a catch, it is most often Cusick they are looking to throw it to. Great speed. He put on a show last night against Dixie with some great runs after catches.

Cusick is also the Beechwood punter. Dixie put on the punt block play and it so happened there was a high snap to Cusick. Cusick smartly took off around left hand and then made an unbelievable 51 yard TD run. That was a smart and amazing play by Cusick.

On defense, Cusick made plays from sideline to sideline from his safety position. I will not be surprised if he led the Tigers in tackles last night.

Beechwood had some fantastic performances last night and Cusick's play on both sides of the ball plus special teams was as good as any of them. Great game and great player James Cusick!
