Look for temperatures in the mid to upper 90s before the precipitation breaks out ahead of the cold front. Timing depends on how fast the front approaches Kentucky.

  • This is going to make hydration an issue next week, especially for any teams/players that had an issue this week. Hydration is an all the time thing, not just drinking water the day of.

  • If you want to experience dry heat, travel to Las Vegas during the summer. My wife and I went in late May. It was quite the experience.

Those along the Ohio River could be in for some heavy rain Friday into Saturday.

We need the rain, bad.

I am wondering if every KHSAA member school obtained their "NEW" measuring device. I am unclear about the usual difference between heat index and wet bulb temperature. Anyone?

My wife and I went to Vegas last month and made our way over to the Grand Canyon and Death Valley, California while out in that area of the country. Humidity was 15% while in Vegas, but at 110-115 each day at the time, that heat hit much worse than I was expecting. Death Valley was 122 the day we went and all I can say is, "Wow"! It was still 100 degrees at 2 in the morning. When we landed back in Nashville and it was 91 degrees, it felt like fall.

Heat index only looks at the temperature and humidity. WBGT takes into account multiple other things including wind speed, cloud cover, and the sun angle. WBGT is said to be best to monitor heat stress outside. You no longer have to measure temperature and humidity and then look them up on a chart. These devices have built in alarms to let you know when you exceed a specific threshold. You can also download the data from the device
