I agree Loudon when you run the ball and chew up the clock it really helps the defense.  I would estimate that last year they were about 70/30 pass to run in the Pulaski game they actually had a lot of success running the ball I would guess they were 60/40 in the Pulaski game.  60/40 is where they need to be because like it or not they still have a great QB who can sling it and they have 3 great and fast receivers so they will continue to throw the ball.  I also think most coaches are going to try to run the football at Beechwood.  They started in their 3 man front on Friday but switched to more of a 4 man front and had much more success.  They have some big kids this season so they need to get bigger up front.  I can almost guarantee you that SK, Dixie and Cov Cath will try to run right at them.  In short I agree I think their defense is much better than most think.

You take out the first TD drive where Beechwood played a 3 man front and then a 82 yard TD where Beechwood missed 2 open field tackles and the defense actually played pretty good.  Most teams will try

IMO Problem is that most are grading these teams the last few years against what will probably be one of the best all time High School stretches of team defense in NKY history. The ‘21 & ‘22 teams were loaded on defense and possessed the ball with a punishing ground game on offense. Quite possibly their best asset on defense. They controlled the clock, did what they wanted. Quick scores, yes. But they ran the ball. They dominated controlling the ball. And the clock ran a lot with them.  Different times with Rash gone.  It’s a passing focused offense now from what I’ve seen. Quick scores still happen, but stop the clock. As do incompletions. Give these kids a chance to grow. Grade them against themselves in the Win columns. It’s a passing offense now, and an explosive one. Time will tell.  That’s my take at least. ✌️ #GoBeechies

I agree this defense has to be given a chance and that's not going to prove out till later in the year when they are facing teams in their own class. The thing that concerns me about the last 2 years with the defense is the missed tackles and the number of silly penalties they have been getting. Beechwood while always a small school has prided itself on the ability to compete with bigger schools for 2 reasons: 1) their attention to details in everything they do offensively and defensively, and 2) their commitment to playing football as fundamentally sound as possible. Both of those things are lacking when you consistently miss tackles which they have done the last few years and get personal fouls penalties to extend drives where you have gotten stops on 3rd downs. The new coaching staff is still finding their way and I knew when Rash left that things were going to be different, but I am hoping the attention to detail part gets figured out sooner rather later. This team can be really special with the firepower they have on offense.

I agree and disagree.  I think the attention to detail has been pretty good so far.  Not many penalties in game 1 but there was a lot of missed tackles.  On the one 82 yard TD that Pulaski got we missed 2 open field tackles and we missed a lot of other tackles on third down which kept their drives alive.  We have to wrap up and swarm the ball and get off the field on third down. I think we need to get bigger up front.  Everyone is going to try to do the same thing Pulaski did run the ball, control the clock and keep the Beechwood offense off the field.  I really liked when we went to the bigger 4 man front.

Very interested to see the score to this one.

I know Pulaski has gotten better since last season, but the result from last week really surprised me. If Beechwood runs the Camels off the field, the Maroons may need to enter some 5A discussions.

It is working, video and audio, nice for a free one!

End of 1, scoreless

Funston to Jackson, 6-0 Camels

2 pt try just short

It was a halfback pass for a TD, old school TD.

534 left in 2nd ,  7-6 Beecwood

Beechwood TD was a 1 yard run by Chase Flaherty.

CC went 3 and out and Beechwood has the ball back.
