Sounds like St. Henry knows what they are doing.

That's the way you would think a school would want to do it. Make the camp to where you can get as many kids there as possible.

I had a conversation a few years back with a couple of St. Henry faculty members about enrollment numbers. They said that they battle a couple of things, historically. It largely derives from the fact

With all of this said, it happens quite often and most times exceptions are granted especially when a move occurs. Allowing the student athlete to play at the sub varsity level is granted frequently.

Right, focus on the kids and the best interests of families.

St. Henry brought in a bunch because it was a 4 day camp that ran from 8:00 to 2:30 at a really good cost, similar to Dixie's basketball camp and Thomas More's camps.  Parents LOVE those types of camps.  Plus it doesn't conflict with summer sports in the evening.

Dixie had over 20 kids not show because of the heat, and I had about 10 at baseball.  Lol.  The evening camps just don't work out nearly as good when you don't have a huge following to begin with.

The problem many schools have with Day camps is availability of coaches. Day camps work great if you have a staff with mostly teachers. When you have a bunch of para's on the coaching staff, they typically aren't going to be available to participate in a day camp. I get what your saying, but you can't hold a camp without coaches, so often these camps are held in the evening.

The KHSAA has a very strict guideline on how grants, scholarships, stipends and all other forms of financial aid can be distributed when it comes to student athletes. Those guidelines are all very clearly outlined in the KHSAA bylaws - out of 27 total bylaws, financial aid is a big enough deal that there is one entire bylaw (number 11) that is dedicated just to addressing financial aid and how it is administered to student athletes.

The part of your statement that I quoted above, as you stated it, is completely false, so whoever your inside source is who told you that, well, they aren't a very good source for correct information. So to clarify, any school can give any student as much scholarship money as they would like to for whatever reason they would like to. There is no reason they can't do that. However (big however, here) as soon as a student wants to participate in any KHSAA-sanctioned sport, then the KHSAA's bylaws apply in whole to that student. In that case, first an most importantly, ALL financial aid is only allowed to be offered to a student-athlete on basis of merit. The basis of merit has to be determined by a KHSAA-approved independent agency (so the school is not then one deciding it), and the independent agency determines how much financial aid that student qualifies for. Whatever amount of financial aid the independent agency determines a student-athlete qualifies for, then that is all they are allowed to be offered in financial aid, regardless of whether or not someone "wants it bad enough."

Schools annually have to submit a detailed report to the KHSAA of all financial aid distributed to all students each year, for both student-athletes and non-athlete students. That process is all taken very seriously. So to say that an athlete can have their tuition taken care of by the school "if the athlete wants it bad enough" is highly incorrect.

How does KHSAA account for NIL with this then since that's allowed and it's happening?

I'm not being accusatory in any way, I want to know how it's scrutinized is all.  It seems like a private school could have someone or some business give an athlete an NIL deal instead of aid directly from the school itself.

I don't know the answer here but I know others do.  How did it work for Corbin and the NIL deals last year?

I have been waiting to see how situations like that are sanctioned also. Its been hard enough for the NCAA to try and make it seem like there are rules to it and I can only imagine what its like for the KHSAA to try and navigate it. I think the biggest part is making sure it benefits the student athlete long term and they don't sign something that could hinder them in the future.

And also in reference to previous post I definitely never said that meritless financial aid was being offered and if somehow it came across like that then glad its cleared up now. Families could qualify for 20% and that could make a huge difference for some. I just know there are different ways for tuitions to be taken care of and that was pertaining to it being stated that they could be light on numbers due to economic demographics. A stellar football player who wants to play there isn't going to be turned down because they can't afford it as long as they pass admissions. There is ways for public school out of district tuitions to be taken care of. I know families in district at public schools that during fund raisers can't afford to make donations and in return they volunteer to work as many school activities as they can out of the goodness of their heart not because they have to. I hope St. Henry can make it possible that any kid who would like to be a student athlete there can have their wish and now that they have football there are going to be many more kids that make that their wish and I hope it comes true for them.

From what I have heard, including from a source with knowledge of enrollments, it isn't that St. Henry is picking up kids that would not be going to parochial schools and may qualify for tuition support. They are gaining enrollments from kids choosing St. Henry over other parochial schools.

let's just assume most of them are to be freshman this year and their high school clock hasn't started yet. Anyone know the guidelines for kids that are soph, and juniors in private schools or public schools that want to transfer into St. Henry? Does St. Henry not having varsity football this year let kids who may have scratched the field at the varsity level else where play JV games this year without a transfer penalty? let's say a kicker from Holy Cross who decides St. Henry might be closer and a better fit for them who only saw the field 3-4 plays a game come to St. Henry and be able to play JV immediately? Say a kid from Dixie wants to transfer in who lives right behind St. Henry, can you transfer from public to private without penalty?

A freshman wanting to transfer to St. Henry follows the same rules that apply to every high school student in Kentucky, public or private.

If a freshman in Kentucky did not play any varsity minutes in any sport, they can transfer to any school in the state public or private that they choose and be eligible.

If a freshman did play varsity minutes in any sport as a freshman, they are immediately ineligible at the new school and have to apply to be eligible. Then the KHSAA bylaws and exceptions are applied when the KHSAA reviews their case.

From St. Henry District High School Football on Facebook:

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new Freshman Football Mentoring Program!

This exciting initiative aims to foster a supportive and enriching environment as our players transition to high school.

Between increased changes and pressure not just from football, but also academic, social, spiritual, and everything else that high school brings, we want to create a safety net to help support our young student/athletes.

We believe this program will be instrumental in maximizing the potential of our freshman players both on and off the field. We are confident that the mentorship provided by our dedicated coaches will make a significant impact on your son's experience during this important first year of high school.

The player would be ineligible for varsity play. Unless something has changed they are eligible for sub varsity play immediately.

Obviously I have no clue what the rules are pertaining to the sub varsity level is why I asked but I thought that could be the scenario you stated. I am sure theres a KHSAA by law on it a whole book long that could be looked up but I would rather be informed on here lol.

The rules section really isn’t that long. You are correct though that eligibility due to transferring won’t affect sub varsity play.

At its most basic level it comes down to whether the player has played varsity minutes in any sport. If.

If the player has played zero varsity minutes in any sport, should be eligible.

If the player has played varsity minutes in any sport, ineligible and has to appeal.
